A few things I wish I knew sooner, a first site primer.

The aim of this post is to pass along some simple rules of thumb and a few good ideas that usually take one months or years to pick up. It comes with a disclaimer though. I am not a seo guru, I am not infallible in regard to design and I am surrounded on this forum by more knowledgeable people. Hence feel free to disagree, discuss or add and make your own decision.
I think a lot of us who have been online for years forget how daunting it all is these days. The days of sticking content into msword, renaming it to an html and getting hits are gone. The web has become more complex and it is exciting and scary to take those first steps. With some luck something in here will help someone take a positive first step.
