What to do next

So with all those questions what do I do next?

I started by doing some research, I found a lot of people do get manufacturing in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and India. Seeing as I am heading off to Thailand for my holiday it seems like I will be checking out China, Hong Kong and Thailand for some manufacturers. I looked into China and a couple of close provinces do a lot of manufacturing, basically Shenzhen (right next door to Hong Kong) and Dongguan, Guangzhou (old name Canton) about 2 hours from Hong Kong. Whilst doing my research I found that the large Canton Import and Export Fair is being held in April (nice timing) but that seems to be more for products already manufactured.

So now I have a list of places, how do I find some people to match those places.

First we made appointments with the Australian Trade commission, Australia China Chamber of Commerce and the Australia China Business Council, hopefully the next post will have more information on how those meetings worked out.

I started to look at some of the online Sourcing Companies and places like Alibaba, Global Trade Centre, Global Sources, ttnet and any others that I can find.

All of this is a bit daunting and I haven't managed to whittle anything down yet. I assume it might take me a few days going through these massive sites until I can find something that suits our needs.

Once I have a bit more information I will post again.

Since that's what they're there for, let's hope one or two of the people you are meeting will do for you what EP does for its own target audience. Good luck!

Thanks the meetings are setup for next week, all I can do is hope that something comes through. Though the initial stages of getting the meetings didn't sound too promising, Austrade only deal with exporters, but they may have a couple of contacts.

This sounds exciting, grynge. All the very best of luck! You've spoken to Australian Chambers of Commerce etc., but have you tried the Chinese embassy?
