    Hello from Richie in London

    Dear All

Just a quick hello to everyone on here. I found this forum by chance as I am sure a lot of people on here did. I was just surfing and put in "money making ideas" etc and came across the "101 ways" website. It was so nice to see a site on the net that just wanted to share info and did not want to sell me something or scam me ! Very refreshing !

I am an absolute newbie to actually trying to make some money on an internet based idea/website. I did have my own business in the past and that did have a website so do know a little about it, but I stress only a little. I do not even know what direction I want to go, buying a "up and running" site or developing something myself. All I know is that I really do want to learn more about the internet and what is possible. Seems ironic now but about 5 years ago, I used to buy dot.com names with my brother just for the fun of it. We had some good ones too, let them all go as we did not see much of a profit in it ! at the time. Hindsight and all that ! - Anyway nice to say hello, Richie from London

Hi Hooperman, we had a limo business that looked after EOS Airlines, a high end US Carrier. We got the turnover up to £1 Million in two years from nothing - they went bust in April 08 and so did we overnight, lost everything - went down for 1.3million - talk about lessons learnt !!!

Hi Richierich and welcome to experienced-people.net

It was so nice to see a site on the net that just wanted to share info and did not want to sell me something or scam me ! Very refreshing !
Thank you. Unfortunately, most people talking about making money online are looking to make money from talking about it and would say anything to make a buck. That applies to even some well known and well reputed names.

Sorry to hear about your limo business, but glad to see you're thinking of doing something online. I hope you start some threads on the topic with good questions.

Well what a weekend ! - taking in as much info as possible reading everything on here and th excellent 101 ways etc. kept me very busy.
Later on Saturday night, and I won't lie, after a couple of glasses of wine, went on to Sedo to look for Domain names to see what's available. It reminds me of a latter day gold rush. You just keep hoping you are going to land the big one !

All the obvious stuff is gone obviously. The stories behind the big names must be incredible. I mean I wonder who owns Casino.com, Book.com, Holiday.com etc. ? Anyway after a few more wines I was really getting into the swing of things !!

I dont know how, but I fell on the term "one month trial". It kept coming up a few times and I thought, hang on this could be something. I did a search and that term came up with 163 Million hits/mentions on the whole internet - Anyway to cut a long story short, "onemonthtrial.com" had gone but I "onemonthtrial.co.uk" was there............ so I bought it.

Now I know it was in haste and did not really know what I was doing but it seemed right at the time. My idea is to build/buy a directory type website and if people get to this site when they are trying to find a "one month trial" for something they are interested in, well maybe - there could be a whole lot of other offers to tempt them as well? - I thought to bring in advertising? obviously.
I know lots of companies offer one month trials at reduced/free prices so thought that if they are all in one place, there might be some good in it? -

I would really appreciate what people think? - good idea? or the confused thinking of a man who had a few too many Chardo`s ? - thanks Richie

You know what, I think that's a very good idea. It shouldn't take too much of SEO to rank for the term "one month trial". If you can identify the main keywords people use in combination with that term you can create folders/pages etc., optimised for each.

My suggestion would be to stick to UK trials. It's unlikely you'll attract organic US traffic for the term if you're using a .co.uk. The .org, .biz, .net etc., are also available. I would suggest you pick up one or two of those for good measure in case it works out and you want to expand later.

Wine seems to work for you!

If you're looking for some directory software, business directory or simply a link directory, there are lots of free PHP scripts available to install onto your domain, these can take seconds to install.

I'd list some them but i probably wont be allowed to just yet as ive only just joined.

Thanks Clinton and Jedi, really appreciate the comments and yes will definately be looking for directory software for the domain. Its really is all new to me (PHP Scripts etc) so not sure how any of it works yet.

By the way - I linked in to 1&1 for the hosting. It cost approx £53 and covers 2 years. Seems ok? they have a lot of other stuff on there. They also have a "added" web builder service on there that you have to pay extra for. This is approx £5.00 per month - Dont know if this is good value or not? - I thought for the £53 I got into the webbuilder programme anyway but this does not seem to be the case? - any experience of 1&1 and in particular the webbuilder? - thanks a lot Richie

I'm paying $5/month for "unlimited" everything (about £80 for 2 years) so what you've got isn't bad. I have heard stories about bad service from 1&1 but I don't know how true they are. I wouldn't pay £60/year for a web builder, but maybe that's just me. I'd either spend a little time learning the basics of HTML/CSS (because I think it's useful) or just go with Wordpress.

    You've been busy
