Buiding rather than buying and selling

With the skill set we have available on EP, I don't see why we couldn't collaborate to create such a thing too. We would need to charge for such a course (just as everyone else does), and the fees brought in would give us the funds to spend money on acquiring yet more content and support.

Anyhow, why not head up to the top of the forum and introduce yourself by telling us something about what you're doing and what you hope to achieve in your online business endeavours?

Getting back to the subject of building traffic, a couple of experienced members have contacted me to express an interest in being involved in such a project, so it's looking promising.

Stick with a CMS like wordpress and there are many tutorials on how to build a site with wordpress on the internet and specially on youtube. You can always refer to micro job sites like fiverr or seoclerks if you are willing to spend a little bit of money and know what you are doing otherwise you might end up getting no results.
Just do a lot of reading, learn what's best onpage techniques for seo and use the freely available plugins. Visit seomoz for basic guides on seo and SMO... build up social media pages and focus on increasing the followers. Also spend some money or time creating and ranking youtube videos related to your product/niche...

Is there still an interest in building sites from scratch?

Start-ups can be very difficult to get going. It's the same with templates and MFFs, ie those sites sold on potential and all you have to do is to get traffic and monetise them. It's not so easy. That's why a lot of people choose to buy rather than build - growth is quicker and easier. The building the site part of it is easy, it's the business part that comes after that's the tricky bit.

But if there's still the interest then perhaps we can provide more of this type of content. The slight problem is that when we attempted this before, we wanted to test everything to make sure it worked. We didn't want to teach stuff that sounded good in theory but didn't really work (like some courses do, even though they're sold as being "proven systems"). It takes time to test things, and prove they work and are sustainable. None of us has yet come up with the ultimate recipe for success with a start-up. But it's all been a good learning experience anyway.

Ive always looked at the people who are doing it because they like doing it and sharing it with others, rather than those selling for a profit, simply because they have nothing to gain by bulls**ing people. OscMax, Oscommerce, to name 2, have great user forums where everyone, newbie to techie, can share problems and solutions, and when you do get really stuck there is always someone who has been there themselves and can suggest a way out for you.
