Making money, SEO is the key?

Ok so I want to get into buying and more so making my own sites now instead of advising everyone.

So I am assuming the key to building up a site, getting traffic and therefore sales, advertising clicks etc, is to actually use SEO techniques.

Anyone know a one stop resource which can explain what to do?

And how long will the SEO process usually take before one starts seeing results?

I wouldn't call SEO the key to anything. It's nice to get free traffic from search engines but no smart entrepreneur builds a business that's reliant solely on SE traffic. A simple algo change could wipe him and his business off the face of this interweb thingie. It's happened before, it'll happen again.
