How do you sell leads?

How DO you sell leads?

This is something I've thought about off and on over the years but I never really got serious about the subject.

Normally what I would do is make a deal with someone who wants leads and set something up for them to collect them directly but this gives control to the client. But what if I wanted to keep control?

I admit I'm sure it can be done but I've got a blind spot here.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

For my finance sites, it's a case of how do you NOT sell them. Merchants keep sending me mail asking for leads... harassing even. That's credit cards, mortgages and insurance for you.

But I don't get that on any of my other sites so I look forward to any tips any one has for Andy and me.
