    Flippa finally wakes up ....

... and realises that not everybody wants a junk turnkey, that people who are looking for established sites are tired of going through the garbage heap.

When selling you can now choose "Established" or "Startup".

Choosing the “New Website” option means that the stats are no longer directly displayed on your listing, so it more clearly represents the seller’s intentions. On the other hand, if you choose “Established Website” then your listing stands out in the listings:
If you choose startup, the stats won't be shown at the top of the page (so people can't immediately see you've got zero PR, zero traffic, zero $).

Problem is, Flippa don't describe what established means - they leave it up to .... drum roll ... sellers!

But, speaking for myself, I'm glad they're beginning to see our point about separating the starter sites from the established ones. Don't worry about giving us credit for it, guys

Your thoughts? Good move? Prefer a different implementation?

Of course, the main issue with this is that many people trying to scam people out of their money will already be posing as an established business, so will this really make a difference? I certainly hope so, I've all but given up on browsing flippa over the last month or so.

It's not going to make a bit of difference. IMO, with the sites of real value, the horses have already left the barn.

I don't think it will make much difference. Most of my weeding out (and obviously, most time spent on Flippa is weeding out) is done on the brief stats on the listing page (traffic, profit, PR).

Choosing the “New Website” option means that the stats are no longer directly displayed on your listing, so it more clearly represents the seller’s intentions.
Do you think that "making listings more clearly represent seller's intentions" was the motivation for making this change, or just hiding a procession of 0s for all the stats that matter? You know, don't draw attention to the fact that the site gets no traffic and makes no money and punters won't realise that it even matters.

As I commented in great length on their blog post, this feature is a start but there is a long way to go. As long as the seller gets to determine if a site is established or not, it won't make a difference.

I'm already seeing sellers label what are essentially turnkey sites as "established sites."

It all depends on how much abuse happens with these settings. I assume that Flippa will continue to allow sellers to declare that their site is established no matter what the truth is, and won't do anything about it until the filter is useless.

I do like the idea, and I hope that they put in the little bit of effort that would be required to make this a success and improve their marketplace.
