I'm not sure I'm an expert on King, I've only read a couple of his books. (One fiction, one nonfiction) I just followed his career, mostly because we are both from Maine and I'm familiar with his house in Bangor. But I think you mean the "The Dark Tower" series, which he spent 20 + years writing, in between his other writing books. I've never read it, so I don't know how he did it, or connected them. Or maybe you mean something totally different and I'm not aware.

That's the one! I read some of those books but never really got into it, I was always hoping they'd get better but I didn't like any of the characters in them. I think I finally gave up just before the one that took all those years to arrive, and never bothered to go back to the series.

I never really got into him either. I did like "The Stand" but felt he could have, and should have, chopped off at least a third of the book away in editing. "On Writing" however, I think it is one of the best books on writing there is. I try to read that one at least once a year. The man has paid his dues and deserves whatever success he's achieved. More power to him.
