    Article Writing

    Hi guys,

I'm a student so I don't have a lot of free time to make money online, however I was thinking about article writing. Of course, there are a few ways to make money from articles: write articles and make your own website and then maybe add Google ads, or write articles from other people and sell them. I would prefer to do the second option because I feel it is quicker and instant money, however others might prefer the first option. Does anybody know of any other methods of making money with articles? Or does anybody know of a good place to sell articles?

Recently I got my hands on some software called Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Some of you will have heard of this before, as it is the best voice to text recognition software on the market. At the moment I'm using it to write this post, and to be honest it is fairly accurate. Of course you have to train it to your voice but after using it quite a lot it starts to learn. The reason I've mentioned this is because Dragon NaturallySpeaking is a good tool for article writing. Personally, I can speak a lot quicker than I can type and I imagine this is the same for most people, even touch typists. This information may be useful to people even if they don't want to make money from articles, because you can use the software for other things, such as sending e-mails, writing post, or dictating something from paper onto a word processor.

Anyway, as I said, does anybody know of any good places to sell articles or does anybody know of good ways to make money from articles? I would appreciate any input. Thank you.

It all depends on your strategy. Building your own content based site is the best way to earn residual, passive income over a long period of time but if you want to just sell articles for quick cash you can do that on forums like Digital Point. Another good one that I've used that pays very well is contant-content.com.

You can also make money via Adsense by publishing articles on Squidoo, Hubpages, Infobarrel and so on but you won't get more than a couple of quid a month per article.

Thank you for your reply. Regarding creating your own website and putting articles on them and adsense, do you think it's best to create niche specific websites, or to create one big article website that has lots of different articles about many different subjects, similar to those big article websites? Which you think would be best in the long run or would rank better on search engines?

I signed up to the site you mentioned, and I might have a try there and see if it's any good. Or, I might have try at DP as well.

I'd most likely go for different sites for different niches, but we have a VPS so the marginal cost of hosting is zero, and I dabble in domains anyway, so that isn't really an extra cost for me either. Costs can really mount up if you're not careful.

As Ian said, it depends on your strategy. Do you want a job for cash now or go for the more long term passive income? It's fairly easy to find writing jobs but it's a harder slog to create a business.

I may do a mix of both then. I've found somebody who has many clients, maybe he owns some big article request site, I get $3.75 per 500 words and they're done in packs of 10, so that's around £22 for 10x500 words. I'm happy with that. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes each article so it takes around 2 to 3 hours. About £7+/hour, better than Tesco! It's constant work as well which is good and the guy is genuine.

If you're a decent writer I'm sure you could do better than that from people on here.

Try offering your services on the BTSE section.

I agree. There's certainly a market for decent writers. This subject has come up a lot in places I frequent. Quality is always an issue. I believe pricing is a function of positioning. But I don't think the place to compete is DP or elancer or any of the other pools of bottom feeders.

As far as offering services in the BTSE section is concerned, I didn't realize one could offer services there.

Absolutely, but let me hasten to add that there is a minimum post count requirement and separate rules (see sticky in BSTE).

When we didn't have rules that section was the one most heavily spammed, so anyone new to this forum reading this post, please note: you will get an immediate (and permanent) ban if your first post is in BSTE.

    Hi,

I have been writing and rewriting articles for the past two years now and with great success regarding the volume of work. Initially I advertised my services on DP, however, I soon found that more money could be earned elsewhere. For new and researched articles I can earn $8.50 for 500 words, however, I am very slow at typing, still only using two fingers. A 500 word original article, for example, takes me an hour and $8.50 an hour is not good for me anyhow.

I read with interest, in the opening message of this thread, about Dragon Naturally Speaking software that may help speed up my article production.

I do have enough work to keep me busy full time and have been offered full time positions , however, I need to speed up to justify writing as a full time occupation.

I enjoy the creativity of writing as I can, very often, express my sense of humor to liven up some otherwise dull articles.

Just my two pence worth for now. Hmmmm actually that is 176 words $2.99!!

    Kind regards,

    David

I've tried Naturally Speaking myself and think it's fantastic. It really does speed up the process andthe accuracy was good. I really struggled to get it to say swear words but I think you can program them in if I remember right. The main question is whether the expense justifies the time you'd save using it.
