    Fantasy question

For those of you who have a portfolio of domains - some of which you now wonder why you ever bought them in the first place. Just imagine a buyer comes along and offers to take all your unwanted ones off you at a great price. (I wish!)

What would you do with the money and why?

Buy more domains and hope to make better buying choices in the future.

Invest the money in the projects you already have which work well.

    A hybrid of the above.

    Something else entirely.

I'm just curious because it's not uncommon to see people wishing they'd never got into the domain business in the first place. I've not quite got to that stage but I have bought some pretty stupid domains in the past and would love to reduce my portfolio of them.

I'd take that money and put it in some non-web based investment as I have too much invested online at present. Any good investment portfolio balances risk with safety so I'd hold some of the money in cash and put some in gold/emerging markets/junk bonds/premium bonds.

I had this happen in a small way, one of my better purchases tvs.co.uk bought for £1000 2 years ago sold for £51000 in June - with the proceeds I did 're-stock' with some more good names buying 4 or 5 domains for around £1000-£2000 each, bought some premium bonds for the first time for something different, also bought a few earning websites which swallowed a lot of it and had a couple of weekend breaks away with the family and put some money away for the tax man So a bit of a mix.

I sold a domain, one I'd forgotten I owned until someone contacted me and offered $2,000 for it. I figured he wanted it more than I did. After the deal had gone through I took 10% to buy more domains and the remainder went into the communal pot for miscellaneous expenses. I've never sold another domain since then - maybe I should should stop messing about in the bargain basement or give up on domaining altogether.

But I can't seem to help myself from buying the darned things.

I'd reinvest it. There are so many great opportunities in domains and websites that it's kind of foolish to have money invested somewhere else now. Though, I should say that I do have a portfolio of stocks too, just not nearly as much into stocks as into the web. So, whenever I've sold a site or domain, I'll buy more. Well, there was one major exception there.... a few years back I flipped a site and used the proceeds to buy a car, an Acura MDX to be specific. Still have it and its still running strong, not really an investment but had to have reliable transport available with my other "job" being "Daddy Taxi" lol. But, yea, reinvest. I'm always hot on the scent of new deals, and usually have more deals available than I have resources to jump into, so any decent sale translates into resources I can use to jump into one of those deals.
