Couple of questions from a newbie

I've posted a couple of times about a site that I have built for a friend, I'm experienced in the subject area, but have limited knowlege of being a webmaster - been learning a lot from here.

    Two specific questions

1 The site has only been online now for 8 days, its name and key words are comming up 3rd on Google..am I right to feel pleased with this or am I being a bit niave?

2 Lots of advice on here about keeping good records on site traffic, usage etc as detailed as possible. Is there a popupular piece of sotware used for this?

    Many thanks

    JJ

Well seeing as you're pretty close to the top of the heap you should be happy but don't necessarily expect to remain there forever. It would also depend on whether you selected a good search term or not.

I would recommend using Google Analytics.

I always give my websites 3 weeks before I start to feel confident in a search ranking.

    I also recommend Google Analytics.

Feel pleased whilst you check how much traffic those keywords are bringing you. Then feel pleased while you find other additional keywords to target.

    Don't feel naive.

    I'd recommend Google Analytics too.

Getting to 3 weeks in and still looking good

    I'd recommend Google Analytics too.
Found this very easy on a HTML page works fine

Found this very easy on workpress, Plug in.......however it doesn't seem to be working

Can't for the life of me work out how to put this code into a phpBB page, and yes I have read the web instructions

Did you target specific terms and optimise for them or are these rankings that the site has achieved naturally?

I'm no expert pretty much a noob as stated. By naturally I think yes...the only thing I have done is link the site in my signature on numerous forums and blogs. I also Twitter and add the link a few times a day - I may be wrong but this seems pretty effective, I hit tweet and within seconds people are logging on and bots crawling the site.

I wouldn't get too exited about the Key words they are not exactly like say "iPod" and comming up No1. A better example would be putting in "SEO Forum" and hitting No1 Googgle, Top 3 Bing, No 1 Yahoo. I'm not really sure like I said if this is good or not to be honest. But it's an early days social project I'm building for someone else.

Also one of the Key issues is that it is a Regional project only of interest to a minute percentage of the worls wide web. I very much doubt the traffic is the right traffic at the moment.

I could have a look and possibly fix it if you want to PM me with logins.

OK, I've added the GA code for you. I did it in the header for all the styles you have. If you purge the cache it should show immediately, otherwise expect to see it in your View Source in due course. Good luck.
