    An Idiot Abroad

I don't know if anyone here is a Ricky Gervais or Karl Pilkington fan, but I bloody love the pair of them!

Been a fan of the podcasts for years and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching An Idiot Abroad on Sky One.

Anybody like it? Did you see the final episode?

I think my favourite quote was:

"If you're not happy looking a nob in the face, there's something wrong with ya."

The really funny thing about Ricky Gervaise is that he got his breaks into media-land by being a total blageur - he is very open about the way he bull-$hitted his way into the openings he got. Then he got to play parts that were completely "in character" ...

I love Ricky Gervais and I watched the first few episodes of 'Idiot' but then Karl Pilkington started to get on my nerves. At first his delivery was funny but then I started to see it as him just being a huge non stop moaning whinger and after that everything he said grated on me. I've never seen such a negative person. Whether he's like that all the time or not I wouldn't know, editors can work magic in the cutting room but that's what they showed to us.

I'm not a fan of Ricky Gervais. I really liked "The Office", but every time I saw him after that, whether on a quiz show or being interviewed, he always seemed to be in David Brent mode so I started to think he was a one-trick pony. I'll keep my eyes peeled for "Idiot", though.

lo, that's because he wasn't acting, he's really like that all the time. I still find it funny and I love his stand up but there is the danger that one day it'll wear off, sure.

If anyone is interested, I've started a Facebook petition to get a second series of An Idiot Abroad:

I love that shaven chimp of a man!

Thanks for the heads up, Ian. I wasn't particularly keen but thought I'd give it a go anyway. And we've already watched six out the the eight episodes. I love Karl Pilkington, he is so funny. He's very game too to try all these things.

He would be my ideal travelling companion.

I've been to several of the places he visited and some of his comments were very similar to what I'd said about the places. There's so much hype about them that they're on nearly everyone's wish list but the reality can be a bit of a let down.

What a brilliant series! Thanks again.

Good idea about the FB petition too.

Bill bryson has recently announced that he will be stepping down as Chancellor of Durham University. Everyone is crying out for him to be replaced by Stephen Fry, and there is a fairly big petition to have him nominated.

However, guess who I immdeiately thought should be our new chancellor.....

What a graudation that would be
