Anyone getting spam from this guy, someone who calls himself Eric Rank?

I remember deleting a spam post here a while ago from a first time poster that mentioned this site. Then I keep seeing him commenting in flipwebsites, flipfilter etc. He usually starts his post with "I don't want to self promote ..."

Today I get spam emails from him - one at each of the domains I have listed at Flippa. Is he contacting everyone who's listing in Flippa and asking them to come over and try his marketplace?!

I like encouraging new marketplaces, but if he doesn't have a big marketing budget and has to rely on link drops and unsolicited email, has he got any chance in hell?

Can't say I've heard anything of him or the site before just now- but just went over and found that its essentialy a flippa clone. Make of that what you will.

Erik and I have exchanged emails in the past. He has always seemed like a nice guy to me, but I do think he might be going about his promotion efforts the wrong way.

I know he's put a lot of effort into building his site - I'm sure it's frustrating to struggle to drive traffic to it.

Spamming is only going to alienate people and I have no respect for people who don't understand that simple fact. He'd be much better off joining EP and getting to know people, then he might make good contacts who could help his business. Some people just don't get it.

I'm always suspicious of people who say, "I don't want to be..." because you know the next word is going to be "but". As in, "I don't want to be racist... but... all Scottish people are mean." (I'm Scottish so please don't attack me for saying that, it was just an example."

Scottish isn't a race so you can say that and not be a racist.

If had participated here in the right spirit he would have gained a lot more in advice and tips on getting the right customers (our typical member) to his site!

And previous discussion threads about establishing such marketplaces would have been very informative as well.

Clinton/Kay - This is Erik.. I found this post and I do want to sincerely apologize for any offence or spam. I hate SPAM as much as you do but turning to creating marketing campaigns isn't always the best way to find customers and drive traffic. SecondWind Marketplace is currently on hiatus but should be up and running by mind year 2012. Also, I am trying not make a Flippa clone, but rather a site that is much more affordable for the avg guy looking to buy and sell sites without dumping a much of money into fees. Again, my apologies. Hi Erik, thanks for dropping in. I don't see your either/or point regards SPAM and marketing campaigns.

You seem to have put a lot of effort into this SecondWind Marketplace. Isn't competing with Flippa a bit like trying to setup a microblogging site to compete with Twitter? How do you plan to achieve critical mass without the big marketing budget I mentioned in the OP? Why should users trust that you won't suddenly go on another hiatus?
