If the guy can verify the site then maybe its a legit sale. Good buy if it is. Maybe ring the number or email the registrar email?

On a bit more of a look it looks like he got the domain from godaddy expired and then grabbed the data from archive.org and google cache and uploaded some to a new template?

Expiration day is June so the drop would have been around July.

The weird thing is it's hosted on lsu.edu servers and the guy also had lsudvd.net for sale which has the same registrar details but different dns settings. Maybe he works/studies at lsu uni?

Looks like the original site was the Cactus Grid Computational Toolkit. That would explain some of the edu backlinks.

    11 + year old domain with PR4....

Last month, I managed to obtain a PR4, 11+ year old .com domain for $250.

I guess it's important to have a good use for it with relevance to the domain name and its niche, and get the site hosted on it. With some promotion and marketing, the domain will be again crawled by Search engine spiders and bots from other authority sites as well getting some of its pages indexed.
This way, the domain will again be in the radar of most ranking authority sites including Google, Bing, Ask, Yahoo, etc. as well as Alexa and others.

Age, TLD, Traffic and SERPs - all play a part in the overall value and rankiing of a domain/site.

I will be using this aged domain for a service portal covering serveral industrial sectors, providing a platform for B2B and B2C.
