    Success With Domain Parking

Has anyone had any success with domain parking? For a while I was monitoring what buyers were doing with expired domains they bought at Godaddy and most of the domains got parked, maybe around 80%. In my little study of 56 domains, traffic ranged from ~ 500 to 44,000 UV/month.

It wasn't an in-depth study, just something to give me an idea of how other people were making their money. I was surprised at the high number of parked domains.

I decided to give it a go myself but in 6 months, the 4 domains I parked have made a mere $130 overall. I know it's all passive income, but a big part of me thinks "what a waste of a good domain". I'm sure that in most cases putting in some work to develop the site would reap higher rewards than the trickle of pennies I'm getting.

Are people here making lots of money parking domains? Do parked domains have a shelf life? Is it just a numbers game - park a million domains all making $1 and become a millionaire?

EDIT: Spookily, I've just received an email from afternic entitled "Discover the Top Domain Parking and Selling Strategies for 2010". Wow!

I park the domains I don't have time to develop but I don't even cover reg fee on most of them to be honest.

I have three domains that are parked. One has been for about two years with sedo, and has only made about $3.

The other two are brand new, that I have had for exactly one week They have made $2.08 and $1.22 so far with Google Adsense for domains. The one that made 2.08 is 1if1.com, which has had 50 uniques some how, and the other is cyberpetz.com which has had 25 uniques. Both where late night spur of the moment buys that I somewhat regretted shortly after. Now they look like they may make the reg fee back if the traffic keeps up.

I have a few domains in parking but my experience mirrors yours. The biggest earner makes about $10-$15 a month and that's because it used to be a site and has some links coming in.

The people who make good money on parking are, I understand, a) those who have a close typo of a very highly visited domain and b) the ones who were very clever with domain tasting to fliter the best ones and...kiting.
