There are a lot of people in this thread who have only one of the bright green bars and you may be wondering why it isn't increasing.

Bad news! From the current level onwards vB gives you an extra button only once every 200 points not every 100 points as you've been used to. This makes sense. As everybody's repping power is much greater now there'd be no point in green bars rising every 100 points, it needs to take a bit longer than that to make it at least as difficult as it was before to gain each new bar.

In other news, while I'm at about 670 in reputation points, grynge is above 680, crabfoot, Kenw3, Kay and others are not far behind me and I can see myself falling to fifth or sixth place in the next couple of weeks.

It's only on this forum that such a drop brightens up my day

Och, fit a scunner. Hope you guys understand Teuchter (Doric actually), my native tongue, no? Don't worry, I can translate.

OK, OK, Clinton, stop hitting me. I'll do English again. (Gee, you're just like my old school teachers - you'd get batted on the head if you didn't speak English.)

When your rep power grows huge, say 30+, then you have to think carefully about where you give your rep. If I had a rep of 10 like our esteemed admins, I could put it about a bit, but with a huge big fatso rep one might tend to be a wee bit more Scottish about it, and not give things away so easily.

It's a bit weird the way it is. Is there any way we could improve it?
More Menu Madness - it makes you want to ask for the "check please".

Maybe it would be possible to actually adjust how much of your rep power you want to give to someone at a time?

Say Kay could choose to rep me from 1 to up to 36 points while Clinton could give 1 or up to 10 at a time etc

Could this be done with vB ?

Nah, that would require custom coding and all.

Just stop being so tight, everyone!

I don't know if it'd be such a bad idea to have max rep points. When it gets to where two or three members (and in the future, one member) can add a full pip to another member, reputation does not retain the same perception of validity.

That's one of the benefits of working your way to the top

Anyone who has gotten to full green on this forum didn't get there by accident. S/he worked hard and the green is a reflection of what the community thinks of that person. If that member can then give someone else a full green pip within a few rep clicks (appropriately spread out - you can't click the same person twice in succession) then these wise and (obviously) respected members have earned that right and we've got to let them use it how they think fit.

Some of them will have more clout on these boards than I have. If they've earned that through community votes then isn't it 100% valid? On what grounds can we take it away from them?

The tightwads among you are going to be happy by this announcement.

Some improvements Ken and I are working on involve some changes to how rep power is calculated. Posters with higher rep power will see their rep power lower from today. Reputation itself isn't affected and the green blobs stay unchanged. What's changed is the number of points you award when you rep someone.

It has become necessary to change how the rep power is calculated because of new vB usergroups we've created to achieve certain objectives to better administer these boards. I won't bore you with the background - Ken and I have exchanged lengthy posts about this privately - but it's all for the improvement of the forums. Apologies for any inconvenience.

As a reminder, admins' rep power is artificially locked at 10.

Woah, didn't realize there are members here with (almost?) full reps.
DP has a limit of 10 for max rep power, I think this is a good idea overall, maybe we should have a similar limit here too, like 20, to make it more balanced
