There was this guy who made some spam posts here (which none of you would have seen unless you're a mod).
He was trying to sell financial products. He's obviously a shady dealer, not FSA registered, no statutory declaration etc. And he was selling obviously dodgy financial products. Anyway, he left enough details, phone number etc. to be traced. I did a bit of investigative work, dug up his full contact details, his location, proof that he had made the same posts elsewhere which are publicly visible etc.
I phoned the Financial Services Authority thinking they'd want to apprehend this chap or at least have a word with him. They kept giving me the third degree wanting all sorts of information from me - about myself! And after all of that they wouldn't comment on what they were going to do. When I pressed and pressed the FSA official admitted that they do nothing in these cases and simply file the complaint (in the dustbin?). Apparently unless someone has lost money as a result of the scam they won't get involved.
Is that dumb, or what?!
