"The Ultimate Traffic Generation Summit" event in London next week

Stumbled onto this event going on next week:

    http://www.trafficgenerationsummit.com/fullSite/

It's in London from the 14-17th. Tickets are selling for £29, but I've also seen free ones floating around.

It's clear that there's going to be a lot of hype, hyperbole and plain lies, together with lots of sales pitches. Nevertheless, some of the speakers are fairly well known and most probably have made a buck or two in their time, so there's most likely a few gems of information which makes it a valuable few days.

I think I'm going to go for the first day at least. If it's rubbish, I'll just leave.

Anything else thinking about going? Or has an opinion?

Thanks for the headsup, Keith. I probably won't be able to make it. But I must admit, the strapline did its bit to put me off

Don't bother coming down for the event.

It's a 4-day gig with a constant flow of 1-hour speaker slots. Each delivers some content/value and then upsells their £1500 training/software package.

All the testimonials/hype can get you enthusiastic (if you're not cynical like me) and a complete newbie would get an overview of different money-making strategies.

I've got some new ideas that I want to try out, so potentially worth my time - but only just. I was worried about anyone buying anything being sold at the event. You should really just dedicate 20-hours to learning about the basics and then just get stuck in.

So much has happened with the recent Google algorithm changes.

Should these people be selling their ideas - or saying "I am to SEO as Cyril Smith was to hang gliding, or the iceberg to Titanic."?

I do not want to "do anybody down" - but I cannot see any strategy being worth a tenth of the price it was selling for 3 months ago without extra support.

"At The Ultimate Traffic Generation Summit some of the worlds best traffic experts will share with you what's working NOW!" ... unfortunately, NOW was last month ...

I just put a site up with a carefully crafted keyword .com name - what's top of Google? Something with three hyphens and a one word in three keyword match. All credit to the SEO that got it there ...

We have a new world to deal in, those guys will be selling last year's package, and I can see why Keith says "don't bother" ...

Ah, brilliant! That just shows that SEO is not the be all and end all- how about the site ranking #1 being the most relevant for the term and of a higer quality?

(... or maybe it had thousands of spammy backlinks)

Actually, the no.1 site is just "big" - every page seems to be made up of info from at least four or five sources. with illustrations and useful links out, and there are lots of pages - it overwhelms the viewer into clicking an ad.

My site is deliberately mediochre (I didn't write it) - I want to see how successful a social SEO technique will be.

I suppose they pay huge amounts for their presence at these events and have to recoup that cost! It's good to go for some of these events sometimes as you do get to meet people, see new things, get a broader picture, but it's also easy to get carried away and sign up for stuff you don't need.

    Me? Cynical?

    Thanks for the warning.
