Thanks for that list, tke71709. It was flagged as SPAM originally because of all the links

What do I have in my RSS reader?

Hmm, I don't know whether I need to be embarassed by this, but what's an RSS reader?

I keep meaning to try it out sometime and sign up to a feed or two ...and then think, "I managed so long without all this social nonsense - from feeds to Tw(a)tter - why start now?"

When I buy a site I tend to strip the forums out, convert the blog to static pages, ditch the blog software and db, throw out the mailing list and remove anything that smells of XML (even the sitemap).

I'm so behind the times, it's scary!

How much of time do you spend keeping up with all that reading?

RSS feeds really aren't social per se, they're just a way to be brought up to speed when someone you think is interesting enough has saying to say. For example, if you use Adsense then I don't see how you couldn't subscribe to Jennsense's feed. Whenever Adsense updates their policies she breaks down the changes line by line for you so that you can keep compliant with the ever shifting TOC.

Reading time is fairly minimal, they obviously don't all post all the time.

I probably spend about 45 minutes a day on them, a lot of them I don't actually read (e.g. most of John Chow's what I had for lunch posts).

BTW throwing out the mailing list for a site you buy seems awfully harsh, these are people who have agreed to have you contact them... Throw em some useful stuff and then pitch them to buy something.

I know it's just an example, but I wouldn't trust Jensense or anyone else to interpret TOS for me. I read them myself. And on occasion I've dropped her a note suggesting a correction she needed to make. Recently I flagged something in her (invite only) forums about UK specific terms that she wasn't aware of.

these are people who have agreed to have you contact them...
I'll do a thread about this sometime but I don't like selling. I go to great lengths to avoid talking anyone into buying anything. My entire online "empire" - that keeps me very comfortably off - involves almost zero selling and I shudder at the thought of ever doing "Internet Marketing". Some would consider that stupid ...and it probably is!

I have several domaining and seo blogs in my feed, but I hardly read them, usually just look through to see if there is anything interesting. I find most of it quite useless. People in this industry mostly blog to advertise their service or promote some affiliate program. If anyone shares anything informative it's usually either quite outdated or just common sense with little substance.

The only kind of blog posts I find useful/inspiring is when someone shares their personal story, like this

I don't think I have an RSS reader. I find most blogs boring (assuming RSS feeds only come from blogs, don't know for sure!). I'll read a post that's been recommended by someone, though.

I don't use my reader much, I get annoyed having to sign in.

I read far and wide. No one site or list of sites gets the bulk of my attention....I go where my interests are at any given moment.

A man after my own heart. You are old school...lol. I don't know how old you are but I'm 37 and I feel like an old man sometimes in this business. I'm just now finally starting with Twitter and I while I have Google Reader with some feeds in it, I have only opened it once. Who has time for all this stuff? It's enough to make your head spin. I'm finding Twitter alone is a time suck but at least I see the value in it. I'm sure readers have a value too but if I started spending time using it, I'd never get any work done. I don't get enough done the way it is

I'm 37 as well, I stay away from Twitter (which is funny because I partnered with someone in that space a year ago on a site) because it truly is a waste of time.

I find RSS feeds are ok though, I use gmail as my email provider and Google feed reader as my RSS reader so everytime I visit my homepage (igoogle) I can see all the new feed posts and e-mails in one spot.
