Am I Missing Something? Why Isn't There a Marketplace Available Here?

Clinton - this question is mainly for you. I've spent a lot of time reading through many of the incredibly useful posts here, and it's obvious there is a need for a marketplace with established, "high quality" websites for sale.

Have you ever considered launching a marketplace to fill the void? I know there is a websites for sale section in here, but I'm talking about a totally separate marketplace geared for experienced flippers.

What I'm finding interesting in all of this is that a lot of people complain that a lot of the stuff on Flippa isn't that great but there isn't ANY legitimate marketplace to turn to either. Why hasn't anyone been able to launch a successful marketplace to fill the void?

LOL. Thanks for your kind comments.

When Flippa was a baby I had numerous people contact me to set a competitor up. I was tempted to take Flippa on. Public opinion was so strongly against Flippa that it wouldn't have been too difficult to get many key players onside.

For various reasons I decided not to go ahead at that time. I'm glad that I didn't. I've owned companies and run businesses and I'm done with all that. I'm 45, semi-retired, and quite happy to stay that way.

I don't believe there's enough business around to sustain a marketplace that exists only for quality/established/profit-making sites. Part of the reason Flippa lists (and encourages the listing of) so much cr*p is because they couldn't survive if they didn't.

Wow...that's interesting. I hear just the opposite from people outside of this forum - that there is PLENTY of business to go around. But it would explain why no other marketplace has been able to compete. So is it safe to say that most of the quality sites are sold privately?

Just to say I've changed my mind since my Feb post above about volume of business at the quality end of the market.

As I've been seeing over the last few months and I posted in more recent threads (example), there is actually a lot of pent up demand. Brokers are seeing increases, business listing sites are seeing increases and my inbox and PM box are seeing increases.

But, no, I am still not interested in starting a marketplace myself, Travis. I know you've mentioned this several times here and in your blog as well and thanks for your vote of confidence, but I'll chip in and assist if someone else wants to take the leap.
