Luke Moulton's face on first page of Google.com for "Selling Websites"

Well done, Luke! You're in my social circle!

Flippa is also on the first page for buy and sell websites

A perfect example of Google search personalization at work.

Seeing as 99.99999% of Internet users do not have Luke or Sitepoint in their social circle they wouldn't see that listing

Oops, I was just editing that post when you replied.

Flippa seem to be doing well for "buying and selling websites" and a few terms like that. But they must get most of their Google traffic from long tail and the sponsored results. I still find it a bit strange they don't rank higher for all their main key terms, nobody could have a more solid backlink profile for those terms.

Google is showing me a very different set of results. I get some lame, outdated post from entrepreneurs-journey.com, and even marketplace.sitepoint.com is showing up. Lot of irrelevant stuff in there too, like where Luke is in your results I have a totally unrelated post from mashable about At&t website stops selling iPhone in NYC. Google #fail for me, but yours looks good.

Oh, yeah, to get that personalised search bit you need to be logged into your Google account. (see that text just above the Flippa listing)

You obviously don't have friends in high places like Sitepoint and Flippa!

Well, that's rather embarrassing! I'm not getting these results either so it must be a personalized thing.
