Flippa mentions now not welcome at Digital Point. Ouch!

There used to be a lot of threads at DP where people listed a site for sale and then linked to their Flippa auction.

    No more.

Digital Point is making more of a bid to become independently recognised at the location to list your site for sale.

I think it's a good thing. Flippa has made huge strides and big improvements but it's never great if one company dominates a market (as Flippa does).

I pointed out in this thread that DP revamped their buying and selling section. If you think that DP is full of low quality, cheap, junk sites, think again. Last month I bought a finance network from there that was advertised for $180,000. I negotiated and got a good deal but that listing never made it to Flippa. I would have lost that deal if I hadn't been monitoring DP.

My suggestion: Keep an eye on this market. The FREE listings model has the potential to become the dominant one.

Oh it's still full of junk, you just happened to come across one of the few decent gems in the junk pile.

I was wondering when they were going to shut that down. I'm more surprised that it took so long to happen. DP is about as full of junk as Flippa, but the junk on DP is generally cheaper.

Just curious: Even in this No Flippa sale listings, one could still list at both places separately, right? I know it would create a problem if you were binned at both places, or even if your reserve was both at both places. But still there would be a way, right (without BIN, reserve?)?

How many sites did you buy in Flippa this year? That's the bottom line, isn't it?

I admit there's a lot of junk in DP. But then, unlike with Flippa, when I wade through the junk I don't have to weed out all that slick marketing talk in most listings. In Flippa you have to often read for several minutes before you realise there's a catch. DP and Flippa, like with businessesforsale.com, sitesnipe and others, have their own quirks that slow the buyer and you have to adjust your strategy. I've not managed to do that for eBay but I find filtering the junk is easier in DP than Flippa. For starter sites - people looking to spend less than a couple of hundred - DP comes across as less spammy.

I didn't think I'd ever hear myself say that!
"DP may have junk but it looks less spammy than Flippa to me"

Ajeet, yes, but does Flippa allow listings elsewhere if you've got a live thread at their site? I haven't checked recently but I remember that it was not allowed.

I buy more sites through other venues, than I buy through Flippa. I will say, though, that my buys on DP are more likely to end up being duds. But, if I waste a couple hundred bucks here and there, no biggie, just chalk it up to learning experience. My average buy on Flippa, OTOH, is much more pricey, so overall I probably spend more buying sites on Flippa than on DP. Still, I buy far less in volume and price using DP & Flippa than I do privately. The private deals are the best, by far.

    Fair enough.

So how do you find the "private deals"?
