Your views on .eu domains
Hi all,
I'm gearing up to purchase some domains for a small group of content sites. My issue is that all TLDs of the keywords I'm looking at are taken - mostly by domainers with parked pages (surprise, surprise!).
The domains are based on search terms for the market I'm targeting. The sites will not be parked domains, but developed/branded with content/product, generally targeting UK but also Europe.
Do any of you fine people have experience working with .eu domains?
Other than public perception (bit of a stigma?), are there any genuine constraints that a .eu might have that a .uk/.com would not. Eg. page rank etc?
Admittedly, public perception is tricky to judge with .eu. I've read both sides of the argument:
- content matters, if your site is good, people will follow.
- don't touch .eu, it doesn't represent anyone specific, instead a region, it's bogus.
It's quite a tough call - there are no other TLDs available, so I'm left wondering if it's a punt in the dark with .eu as clearly - I don't wish to alienate or confuse visitors/customers.
Any opinions/advice would be muchos appreciated.
Thanks.
