The one place to NOT go

The one place to not go is eBay. I can't believe how one site can hold so much of junk.

But what is a good way is to keep tabs on people asking about valuation in forums. Not all of them go on to list their sites for sale. So if you've got good records or a good memory you can drop them a PM after some months and ask if they have any interest in selling. There's a better success rate with this than picking unloved sites by trawling the DMOZ index IMHO.

You're so right, they're all just newly made production line, waste of time sites as far as I can see.

Im always amazed on ebay, how many people with limited knowledge , pay so much for cookie cutter sites or just blatant templates that have been re-hashed around 1000 times, buyer beware

Yea, I know. There's so much crap on Ebay. I once bought one of those template sites for $300 or so on Ebay. Total rip off. Of course, I never even copied the site files over to my servers, and just listed the domain on Sedo and it sold for $5,000 a week later, so it wasn't such a bad deal I guess. The site itself was worthless though.
