    Hello

Hi everyone. I'm totally new to this sort of thing I have worked at the same place for 15 years (kitchen manufacturing) from leaving school actually. I was made redundant due to the company closing and really wanted a change I started doing an online course with Lynda.Com in graphic & website design and SEO which is pretty much how I have ended up here trawling, Google for random things.

This site is something else, a real eyeopener. There is loads of talk about buying and selling sites which is mind-blowing what kind of sites are you dealing with I assumed the sites that will make mega bucks are the likes of facebook & myspace etc I'm obviously so wrong here.

What sort of sites do you guys trade in?

Now that would be telling. My sites are about as far away from facebook and myspace as you can get. I'd even go as far as to say they are about subjects most people would call mundane. But there is enough demand for this material to make it worthwhile.

I don't believe most people here "trade" in sites for a living.

When I buy a nice profit-making site the last thing I want to do is sell it!

I own sites that sell software, sites that sell online services, sites that have a lot of great content and just earn money from advertising, others.

myspace, facebook, twitter etc., are all very popular sites but have all struggled to make any serious money. While they are grabbing headlines (and tweets/tw*ts...whatever you call it), the big finance sites, the diet & blue pill sites, dating sites and others are making hundreds of millions of dollars every year.

That lynda.com came up in an earlier thread. Could you tell us a bit more about it? Maybe in a new thread.

Cheers Clinton I was just wondering what kind of sites it was you guys was dealing with as the first thing that springs to mind is the social networks.

Buying and running or buying and selling sites never crossed my mind I thought it was about trying to build successful sites.

JG, I own numerous sites but a good place to start would be the link in my signature. Browse around there - do you see a lot of useful information on a subject that I obviously have some experience with? Others find it useful too and link to it. As a result it gets 2 million odd visitors a year and makes a fair bit of money despite not selling anything. Other such sites are a bit more aggressive with monetising and tout various products rather than just leaving a few blocks for Adsense advertisers to do what they want with. They make even more money.

You could start a site on a subject you've got a fair bit of knowledge on (or interest in). You could also buy a site in that subject if you find one that's established and in need of some TLC (new content, updated information etc)

I was on there yesterday for hours reading the 101 tips and other various topics. Very good read. It was that site which lead me here :-)

    Hi Narcotic.

Are you considering buying some sites or are you interested in selling sites? ...or both like me.

    Hi.

I'm not 100% sure on how it works and what to buy yet so I'm still having a look around and reading other peoples stories.
