Steve Pavlina is the real deal, I've read many of his articles and like most of his stuff (but frankly he went too far with a few of his experiments lately and the constant workshop promotions). But if you're thinking of creating a similar popular blog, by just writing about what you think about life's experiences keep in mind he's one in a million and his writing is quite superb, not many bloggers can compare.

I wouldn't recommend build it, its just easier and more effective to set up a simple wp blog if you want to start a site and you can find all the other info you need to build a successful site right here in this forum.

A very good friend of mine makes $2-3k a month from a Site Build It site. Well, he did until the very first wave of Panda halved his traffic and therefore his income. At it's core it is a system based on good content and keywords but it's flawed for two reasons.

    1. It relies on Google for traffic.
    2. You pay a yearly fee for something you could easily do yourself with Wordpress and a $10 domain.

I'd be inclined to do it yourself with Wordpress and a simple template like Thesis.

Forgot to post this link which caused a lot of controversy within the Site Build It community. Good read (and some of her other Site Build It articles too): http://lissowerbutts.com/site-build-it-scam-review/

    WOW!

Thank you everyone for your posts. I was expecting to be told to shove off but you guys really have answered thoroughly.

It looks as though I have to learn a bit more and I keep hearing “Wordpress” so I am thinking that is the way forward.
I want to build a site that does have some interest to me and as a working Dad that is what I want to base it on. I was hoping that I could include some affiliates just to help bump revenue and that is where I was lead to Steve Pavlina and Rosalind Gardiner and, I am no mug, guessed that these were too good to be true.
I’m sure someone has asked the basic questions of how to find and use Wordpress but if anyone has any links it would be appreciated.
Once again, thank you for all the responses, I am really pleased that this forum seems to be one that will help and not just mock the new guy!

The official Wordpress website really is good for beginners.

We aim to please - and don't forget, we were all new once.

Re WordPress - try the forum search function, and the Website 101 forum is a good place for discussion about building websites etc.

If you want to go straight to the horse's mouth, then:

    http://wordpress.org/

By "including affiliates", did you mean merchants you want to affiliate with? It's quite easy to find merchants. There's loads of stuff here already, you just have to dig a little.

Edit: I was posting at the same time as Clayton and hadn't seen his. The Codex page is a good link!

    Hi Kay

TBH when I was thinking of affiliates at thee moment I was just thinking, Amazon, e-bay etc just links regarding material I will be writing about.

Again, I have been pointed to Rosalind Gardiner and her claims of making ££££'s via affiliates. I'm sure she has but not mental enough to think that this a proven plan to make money - always struggle with these people that promise you will make money but then ask you for money first - of course you will make money - MINE!!

But I have noticed some sites including links to Amazon or Betting sites which must pay out a wee bit.

Affiliate Marketing is a whole big topic on its own, so let's not get it jumbled up on a thread about MMO products. I'll start a new thread. Meanwhile, I'll just say that I wouldn't back Amazon to pay my bills every month.

Getting back to MMO, has anyone found anything else that they thought was worth further investigation?

(Warning to any would-be spammers - all newbie posts are pre-moderated so don't waste your time and ours by joining up to post your spammy link to some crappy MMO product.)
