affiliate sites- setting something simple up

    Hi everyone,

I've had an idea and would like to set up a couple of simple couple page websites to give a little information and make some money from affiliate marketing of products related to the content/domain.

Has anyone had experience in doing this? Are there some specific templates I can use to save time/money? Would it cost a lot to set up?

I am thinking about a paid-for Wordpress theme, and Commission Junction plugin - unless you all know of something better for me to use!

    Thanks as always,

    Leon

Leon, in this post you said:
I see how that is a good idea, links on a plate and an opportunity to develop a new site, hmm! I think that this may be a bit much for me at this point (time and money wise...) as I would have another project to deal with.

It seems good idea to concentrate on my own site and learn how to make it successful,
You've given up on that to start affiliate sites? The reason I ask is because earning from affiliate programs is a whole different area of specialisation that takes a long time to master.

    Hey Clinton,

No, I still really like my Business Bird site and I get some good feedback from people on that.

I just had an idea, bought some domains and wanted to throw up a very cheap affiliate site and see what happens- I was going to get someone to set something up for me, but I think I could Get Wordpress going, get some decent copy, stick on some affiliates, some SEO and very low budget PPC (mostly as a learning exercise). While I can see it would be a bad idea to throw my business bird away, I (optimistically) think that this should not take over my time.

Fair enough. If I were starting out today, I'd concentrate on one or two properties and build on them. That's difficult enough - adding content, getting links, testing monetising strategies - without the distraction of learning a whole new game on the side.
