Did you get the Sitepoint email?

As a member of SitePoint I wanted to let you know we're in the process of sprucing up the forums....Behind the scenes we've been working super hard to eliminate the spammers and fluff posters, and now we're focusing on the raising the quality of posts. On the admin side, we're cleaning up all the FAQs and sticky threads so that you can find information quickly and we've just brought in a new bunch of mentors to help out if you're struggling to find what you need.
I've obviously not being going there often enough

But I will post in their Buy & Sell section more often if they have any success with clearing up all that junk and raising the level of debate. It would be great to reach more of their members and help out. It doesn't hurt that some of them follow my signature to see if this site is any good

No matter how much they clean it up though, I believe there should be an independent forum for discussion that's not owned by the same people who own Flippa.

Cleaning up the FAQ and stickies won't help the spam/fluff post problem, but enlisting the help of a few strict mentors might. Good luck to them, though, because eliminating the crap really is a thankless task.

Once a forum starts to get out of control, I assume it would extremely difficult to get it back on track.

I wish them all the luck in the world but I'm pretty much at the point where going there is a waste of my time.

I don't know if that place needs even more moderators than they already have.

I don't go there as often as I used to because of this forum, but I think they really need the owners to lay down the law about spam posts, rather than allowing people who contribute nothing more than profile links to make the majority of the posts. If that actually happens, it will be good for the site.

I think having more mentors may be the right path, provided that the mentors are knowledgeable. It's impossible to count the number of questions asked on that forum that get absolutely horrible answers before Dan "the man" Grossman comes in and saves the day.

I don't know Clayton, I enjoy reading 15 in a row post the exact same incorrect answer in order to spam their sig links.

Hey, did you all know that Google Adwords is a great tool to determine the SEO competitiveness of a keyword?

It's Misleading Information Central! What's the standard for valuation again? 12x?

And who was it who set that? The IMF?
