Some random joe buying some random websites is not the equivalent of "declaring war" on Flippa. People buy domains with no intention of developing them all the time. Heck if Flippa was smart they would have bought up a slew of potentially negative domain names related to their service long ago just to stop others from doing so.

Flippa has their issues (and plenty of them from both a support and marketing perspective) but they are things that hopefully they will work out in time. The industry is young to say the least, and young industries and companies take time to mature. Heck, DM learned not to post in public so they have already shown an ability to learn from their mistakes.

    tke71709, I disagree.

Sometimes competitors buy up the "anti" domains like the ones with the word sucks in them. But where competitors don't exist, the number of sucks domains that get registered against you is a function of how big your business is and how many people are upset with you or think there's long term mileage in betting against your customer service improving.

On the suspension issue, Andrew and I are corresponding by email so hopefully we can move this thread past my own suspension - which wasn't the original topic of the thread - and to what happens with a Flippa suspension, how customer services deals with suspensions etc.

My Flippa suspension was lifted last week after an exchange of some emails with Andrew.

I believe the staff didn't realise my comment to the seller was a private comment and I feel support staff should know that Confidential Listings don't have public comments. Andrew seems to believe that there was no such misinterpretation at their end. So we've agreed to disagree on the cause of the suspension..

Andrew asked for an assurance from me that I won't poach members from Flippa. As that has never been my style I was quite happy to give that assurance. Based on that, it seems, the suspension has been removed. Hopefully they'll look at their system, tighten it up, send out proper emails when people are suspended and tell them what exactly they were suspended for, what term the suspension is for etc. There was some mention earlier in the thread of a more "transparent" suspension policy. I look forward to that.

Anyway, back to the OP. One other thing I discovered about suspended accounts (I think): If you make a blog comment in Flippa while suspended it shows up in your real name rather than your Flippa ID. About the test listing I was attempting while my account was banned ... I'm now getting automated reminders from the Flippa system that there are people who want to buy my experienced-people.co.uk site and the email suggests I should go ahead and list that site

Poach is my choice of word. In SP as a courtesy I did used to sometimes drop sellers a PM if their listing was being discussed in an SP thread. I don't do that with Flippa users as standard as this forum isn't on the same domain as Flippa, but Andrew's concern may be spam i.e. forum owners using Flippa's private messaging system to invite people over to their forums (especially forums that allow new registrants to start WTS threads). Who knows, he may have had some problem like that in the past with other forums.

Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification.
