Useful sites and tools.

Hello,
Having already received some excellent information and help on here,especially from a post i made in a thread about building websites i now have another question.I think i would rather go down the buying websites route for starters although i may well try and put together a website soon as it can only help.

Anyway from some of the links i have been given i have read a few things some of which mention free tools etc,for example Google's free keyword tool.
So are there many other tools that would be useful to know about for a newbie,are they already listed on here and have i missed them(if so i apologise)

There are a lot of posts on here which list free tools and utilities. You should be looking harder. The search on E-P is famously bad.

You get free tuition on site building at W3 Schools. There are quite a few sites that will provide free templates - here's a sample -

although you don't get access to a lot of features, you can put a basic site on those for free and they don't mess you about. They might try to sell you stuff on the way to the free hosting - don't buy anything.

You can build HTML sites using the Composer view of the SeaMonkey browser - WYSIWYG for free.

Try a course on google-fu.

Thanks crabfoot and you are probably correct i should be looking harder but im trying to read so much at the moment to try and understand how all this works that im bound to miss some stuff.Your reply is excellent though thanks again.

That's true.

I often use Google and do this:
site:experienced-people.net +"keyword" +"keyword"

Bear in mind that posts in some forums here are not indexed in Google and our best posts and threads (in the VIP Lounge) are out of Google's reach and out of reach to anyone who has not accumulated enough posts to have VIP Lounge access.

Established members can use our own internal Advanced Search for VIP Lounge, FWIW.

I wouldn't put it quite so strongly - but you might have found out if you'd spent time reading the site. You might even find the post from an E-P novice called KenW3 that tells how he spent several days on that task when he first found E-P.
One BIG hint - don't try to "speed read" here - a lot of the hints are so subtle you miss them that way - but you've already noticed that!

It has to be said that a lot of the info is hard to understand as useful when you haven't got far enough up the ladder to actually implement it.

The way you know you are climbing the ladder is when you find yourself doing something for the first time because someone mentioned it here.
