But how can I know if they're advertising on my site or not with all this personalised and geo-targeted sh!t they keep feeding me. How can I know what other people see?

Say last week I was looking for somewhere to buy batik wax, yesterday I was was thinking about buying another domain, and then I wanted a recipe for roasted squirrel. OK, so I've been and done that, I got my answers. Why do these darned ads for batik, domains and squirrels have to follow me about for the rest of my life?

And even if I try to switch off the personalised rubbish, they'll still try to geo-target it so I get hotels in Hong Kong or apartments in Tokyo. I haven't got a clue what adverts other people are seeing on my site. I really don't like that. I hate being disempowered but if you depend on AdSense that's what you do, and wait to receive the mystery meat into your bank account every month.

Anyway, thanks for a good heads up on the situation, leedegroot.

Ahhhhh the magic of running no javascripts. You can always delete ya cookies and temp files that will get rid of those ads following you forever.

So much for being a keyboard warrior and the anonymity of the internet. You'd get more privacy living in a small goldfish bowl. Bah!

So why don't you use a browser that blocks ads and a search facility like Scroogle instead of Google?

Because I'm a normal person and I go for the easiest route. I'm not some darned IM or MMO type of freak.

Yeah, I agree. And someone has to pay for my electricity and ISP, never mind holidays.

Definitely a strategy employed by larger publishers. You can block advertisers in your AdSense account to combat their position of being able to buy cheaper than going direct with you. Offer a better service, better ad spots, guaranteed inventory and should you be able to get that premium eCPM. Many media buyers (especially middle-men agencies) are more concerned with guaranteed exposure, spending all their budget, rather than the actual cost.
