Gotcha Flippa! You've closed another thread

Why is it Sitepoint posters have the impression that the owners aren't into censoring? Sure they allow the odd negative comment, but when it looks like it'll have an impact on the bottom line, they delete comments, close threads, block comments and even remove complete threads. (Anyone here remember the discussion about Flippa thread that they completely pulled?)

At Flippa it's not Matt closing the comments and deleting the threads, it's Dave and Luke, but it's just as despicable especially on threads that mislead newbies (and swell Flippa's coffers by doing so).

They've done it in Flippa this time with the Ed Dale post. We've been discussing it in this thread here and it's obvious that the bloke is trying to get away with a lot of slimy promotion designed as education. Flippa let my original comment in that thread stay - "see what nice guys we are, we can take negative comments" but slyly deleted other posts of mine that were less "forthright" - and closed the thread (not something they normally do with threads). They ensured they gave the last (rather useless) word to Ed himself.

It's their site and they can do what they like with it, but Luke, we aren't idiots and don't buy the comments you make in this thread blaming your anti-spam systems. Why don't you just admit you block, delay and delete comments.

If this forum didn't exist to expose the tricks you've been up to I dread to think what other stunts you'd be pulling.

For anyone wanting to discuss a Flippa blog post, it seems to make sense to do it here rather than on Flippa.

I must say I'm disappointed that they chickened out on a frank discussion or an examination of what is fact and what is spiel.

Agreed hooperman, but the spin it's putting out there could be conning innocent people, contributing toward flooding the market with junk and working against their stated and our real interest of seeing better quality sites at the Flippa marketplace.

What gets me is the duplicity. Dave keeps talking about wanting people who've put together educational material. hooperman, has he contacted you to write something - it's obvious from your blog that you are a keen follower of the market and have a good eye for spotting scams? Has he contacted Michelle Adams who specialises in helping newbies get started with making money from websites? Has he contacted Clinton - who has more than a bit of interest in the market and has written books and books worth of material on buying and selling sites - to contribute an article?

He doesn't want anyone who can contribute quality information, he just wants the average bootlicker who'll double up as a backscratcher.

No. Maybe the scam spotting aspect of my blog doesn't quite fit with the current "Flippa Feel".

    Has he contacted Clinton
I have been contacted by Flippa by email and phone and have had discussions/consulations with them on various issues. Some of it, including changes they're considering, may have been discussed with me on the assumption of confidentiality so I haven't mentioned them in public. But no, I can't recall being asked to write a blog post.

I'm not making any excuses for them. They made their bed, let them lay in it.

I'll take it they haven't emailed Peter a request to write for them either. I doubt it's taken them time to realise that the people here can contribute useful material. It's just that we never occured to them because we don't have a vested interest in talking up the Flippa marketplace the way the Ed Dales and siteflipping bloggers do.

Well, they did ask me to do the newsletter, but that was back when it was Sitepoint Marketplace before Flippa.
