Ideas wanted (Please) on speeding up ROI on a plugin

Further to my previous post on "A lesson in how NOT to buy a websites!", I am taking up Clinton's suggestion (thanks) and providing further details in the hope that I can get some good ideas on how to speed up the ROI.

The product is: a WP SEO plugin

With a simple website (think: 2 pages) Squeeze page. This is the primary source of existing sales. av. 3 sales per week.

It is listed on CB since late October '11. Less than 10 sales.

I have tested the prices at $9.99 and $27.00 - no real change to sales numbers - current price is US$27 on both CB and the website.

At present, I have completed some basic on-site SEO work and built some quality off-site back-links. This is on-going work-in-progress.

I have sent review copies to a number of bloggers in the SEO field.

I am currently not doing any PPC advertising.

Any help/ ideas in how to further promote the product will be much appreciated.

Without any details on your SEO plugin, I'd say you need to highlight some unique attribute that yours has over the competition (which is free competition BTW). Is it super easy to setup? Do you provide support? Is there a specific business/individual that could use your plugin more effectively? And so on...

Pretty much covered on the marketing material but thanks for the input ihw455. I guess my main weakness is marketing to affiliates and PPC. Any ideas?

I went to your LazySEORockstar.com site. Do you own the dot net? The .net has a review but no order buttons. The dot com is not a sales page, and sales information is under the Learn More link. The Buy Now button does not bring me to a check-out, it redirects to the same Learn More page.

You've chosen a very difficult niche in which to compete. For SEO WordPress plugins, there are many great ones to choose from. All-in-one SEO and WordPress SEO by Yoast are free, and both are very comprehensive. (I use both.) SEOPressor is a paid plugin and very successful.

First, I would suggest a sales page on your home page and a sales video. You have a video on the Learn More page, but it is not a sales video, it's an after-purchase support video on how to install and use the plugin. You should have a sales video and a sales page that leads people to buy this based upon benefits provided that justify the cost.

I would not recommend linking to your affiliate information from your home page, and would certainly remove all references to a WSO offer. I can't say I'd be willing to pay $27 for this when you have a link to http://warriorplus.com/affiliate/offer/6174 on your site.

Selling this product is no different than selling any product. Answer questions prospective customers will ask. Why should they buy this plugin? What results are available from using this plugin? Who is your competition? and Why are you better? Why are people currently buying this plugin? The answers provide the material for your sales page. Why is this plugin something that webmasters with WordPress sites cannot live without?

You can build a list by teaching, helping others. How well do you know the processes this plugin supports? This educational material can go out to subscribers, to affiliates, to jv partners. If you teach the processes this plugin provides, then customers will trust it. I would recommend making your main page a sales page only, and then you can lead people there from other sites, or help affiliates lead people there.

I think what Ken says above would be a good start, why is your squeeze page not on the home page?

Add some new features and bring out a "PLUGIN v2.0" maybe a link checker, or an auto apply bot for directories, a comment poster for blogs.
Poll your existing customers and ask what new feature they would love "for free" you will always get decent feedback then.
Depending how many existing customer you have maybe start a forum or a link selling/buying market?
Then there came a time, of Kings, Empires and Revolutions, blood just looks the same when you open the vein.

I think he may have a problem based on the following quote from the original seller of the site:

You don't have to worry about that - my current customers remain my customers!

I will refund them if that's the case and I will answer their questions, so you will only have to deal with buyers you acquire
hawthorn2008, did the site seller provide you with an email list of all the previous buyers of the plugin?

    KenW3:

Firstly, thank-you so much for the treasure-trove of advice. I am onto many of your suggestions as we speak. Thanks again!

I don't own the .net Seems like one of the original affs owns that domain. I totally agree on the Sales Video. I am scripting it right now and will put together a simple sales vid to outline the KSP's.

The link to the warrior is about to be executed by firing squad! I will not send the empty shell and demand for the cost of it to the relatives.

I agree with you on building a list and helping others. I am very familiar with the processes and it does make sense to make a series of educational vids to exploit these. I do have a list that is slowly building that utilizes a series of E-mail newsletters that provide further education on how to obtain the full benefit of the plug-in. Especial on the .gov and .edu back link finder.

The site is being completely re-designed right now to reflect the feedback you have provided. Thanks so much again and I will let you know the changes reflected in sales and the list / member acquisition once implemented. I have no doubt it will be reflected with some positive numbers. At present, even with the poor set-up I have some solid word-of-mouth so it will be very interesting to see what happens with your expert input.

    Thanks grynge.

I have added this to my 'growing' to-do-list. Probably not at the level to justify the forum or link selling/ buying market but that is a wicked idea for the future. I am going to focus on implementing Ken's and your ideas of adding some features to a new version and poll customers to find out exactly what they want those features to be. Excellent idea.

You are on the money sitemaster. No list provided and essentially I get people who want new versions or have issues. Both cases are positive, as I have the chance to build trust, loyalty and build my own list.
