I'm thinking of buying a Kindle

I spend a small fortune on books, and read loads, so it seems to make sense for me to buy a Kindle. I don't know why I haven't done so before. I can see loads of advantages - cheaper books, instant delivery online, less weight for travelling, etc, etc. Dave is suggesting that maybe I should consider buying a tablet instead, but I've pretty much set my heart on a Kindle.

I don't know which model I want yet but when I decide, I sure as heck will be buying it from the US and not the UK. As an example, the cheapest model on Amazon US is $79 and the same model costs £89 on Amazon UK. It's a no-brainer.

Anyway, does anyone here have a Kindle? Any advice or recommendations?

I too used to spend a on books, now I mostly read them on my ipad. I had a sony reader (similar to a kindle) but abandoned it after a few weeks of use. Wasn't very comfortable to use and can't read in the evening. But for $79 it's worth a shot!

I read a lot, plus I travel a lot. Therefore books inevitably add a considerable amount of weight to our luggage. It seems like a good idea to have a collection of stuff to read on a light and portable device. I've spent the afternoon browsing Kindle ebooks and there are countless free ones too. I've been on a wild and crazy spending spree and have spend nowt so far. Amazing!

I should have done this ages ago, but there again, they do say that the Kindle is becoming more popular with the over-45s.

I'm sure I want one. The only decision now is with or without keyboard.

I bought a Kindle Touch for my wife and she is very happy with it. She definitely prefers reading on it to a backlit screen, and it is much easier to carry than several books on a trip. It would be money well spent in my opinion.

I've got a Kobo myself, well worth the money and you won't regret the purchase (I'd probably go Kindle but my wife bought it for me and the Kindle rep was one of her clients).

I got my wife a Kindle about a year ago. She reads tons and downloaded loads of books and talking books onto it. She loves it. The battery life is really long so you arent constantly recharging. main drawback as far as I am concerned is that if she is reading 1 book on it I cant read any of her other books, and if you have more than 1 Kindle in a home you each have to buy your own books, no sharing like with paperbacks.

Can't you both access the same Kindle cloud storage space using the same account? Does it not work that way?

I didn't get my Kindle ordered today anyway because there were so many additional costs that it wasn't just a case of 79 bucks any more. I'd have to get the advert-free version because the ones with the ads on the screensaver are for US-resident customers only, plus I'd wanted a case to protect it whilst travelling, and I wanted the model with the keyboard, and then there were the shipping costs... and our AS account was crap today again.

Yeah, I know. It's a tough life. I'll make myself a sign (or an avatar?) saying "Will work for food". Bah! We never had to worry about stuff like this when we were in the rat race.

Ahh I forgot the issue with my Kobo (and many others apparently), there are issues with the PCs not recognizing the Kobo when it's plugged in. Makes it difficult to transfer files from the PC to it, let me tell you that.

My wife has a Kindle Touch and an IPAD 2 with an Amazon account. There are many free books on Amazon. She likes the IPAD 2 for reading when the lighting is bad and she uses the Kindle outside mostly. With Amazon, she can have the books on both devices, plus they allow you to share each book one time with others. She's a readaholic so she really enjoys both.

My mum reads a ton of books so was pretty sceptical when I bought her a Kindle a few months back (can't remember which one I got - it was from Amazon UK, though). She now uses it daily and loves it.

Can't really add much to other's comments, but just wanted to add that I think they are a solid purchase.
