You have your time in setting up the banner so there's another reason for giving lower rates for longer periods.
They use a WP plugin called ADV to insert the banner as a widget. That should take next to no time, but activation failed when I tried their activation code in the plugin settings. Now in helpdesk mode waiting to see what they advise. They do supply the code for direct insertion, but presumably I'd still have the activation problem.
I like the "what does adsense make in that spot" comparison for determining my floor, same true if I had an affiliate offer in that same spot. If someone wants that spot I want to make more then I am currently. If someone else wants the spot later I can charge them more...I also discount price if they agree to longer term agreement.
Fixed it. When I registered at the Bizotto site, I received a new activation code which superseded the one I was given by e-mail.
I understand the logic of using Adsense revenue to establish a floor price. However, my untargeted (until recently) posts have typically attracted less revenue from a couple of Adsense units than I got for each simple text link I sold. That should change now, so I may put Adsense back in.

Nice try, but no coconut. The client rejected my site this time round because he has already filled his quota. The agent says he'll contact me before the next campaign for this client. I've thanked him and offered my other established blog site to add to their list.
Is it worth touting among the agencies while my site has such low traffic? I suspect it could be better use of my time to concentrate on building traffic.

I would not bother 'touting to agencies' when traffic is low. However I make it very clear on all my sites that advertising is accepted and I will give the rates to those who e-mail me. These rates are set at what I would charge at a reasonable traffic level, say 1,000 pageviews per month. My traffic building efforts will take me through that level and then I will adjust the rates upwards. I'm always pleased that some advertisers will place ads even when in my opinion I am probably overcharging for the space.
