It would be nice if Justin gave us an update, but I'm not very hopeful. We exchanged a couple of PMs and I thought we were all good, but I notice his blog roll of "Industry Links" now, it appears, is permanently missing a link to these forums ... and I haven't seen him logged in for a while.

It looks like the $1 offer has only just been removed (thanks, Googlecache). The homepage now redirects to 3.html which is a new page that doesn't offer a $1 trial but - it's a straight $99 pm charge with a seven day cancellation period. The forced urgency model would have lacked credibility if they didn't remove that special limited time $1 offer at some point so I believe they were right to remove it.

However, the older page with the $1 trial is still accessible if you know how so it maybe that some partners are still sending traffic there. "The $1 offer is not available to the public anymore but I've negotiated an extension for readers of this blog if you click this link."

Both the .com and .co.uk versions of dealtrojan are showing as parked, but that doesn't mean anything about the tool itself as it could still be available within the subscriber areas of IT.

Right around the launch of the product Justin asked us to take a look and both myself and my business partner (Joe) checked it out briefly. It's been a little while, but I remember it feeling a bit more "salesy" than I thought it should. The content seemed pretty useful, but the forum was quite dead.

It's disappointing to hear that it sounds like it's dying...I'm a fan of Justin's and really like/enjoy his bog posts at FlipFilter. He's a super-sharp guy, but it sounds like this one was a miss? I was thinking about this...what about a course on buying/selling that's free where they offer walk-throughs and discounts on their tools. (A-La-"The Challenge") They'd get more people in the door that way...

Interesting thought, but my opinion has always been that this end of the market is not pretty and the type of beginners targeted by these courses are people who are relying on your word that there is opportunity in the market and that they can exploit it with your assistance/advice/tools.

If you can't prove it to them and they don't make money, they'll quickly leave ... and you'll have to step up the flow of other new members willing to believe and try. You need to increase the hype, improve your window dressing, further exaggerate the claims. This has happened time and time again in the market for siteflipping products/ courses/ communities.

I believe there's little to no opportunity for such beginners. This is contrary to the opinion held publicly by several intelligent and super-sharp people. I do not know how many of these experts genuinely believe in these opps for n00bs and how many are holding that line because it assists the sale of their product in that market. If, as the owner of a forum (and site) talking about site buying/selling, I took the industry line peddled by all these experts I'd get a lot more traffic, a lot more threads and posts and a lot more of those "experts" posting instead of them being p*ssed off with me. My earnings on the .co.uk site would go up a notch or two as well.

Funnily enough I got an email through about Internet Tycoon this evening. I'm on a list having registered for something via Market Samurai (whatever tool that Market Samurai links to for finding aged domains).
So tonight I get an email from Kenny Goodman about Internet Tycoon. The name rang a bell instantly as I knew I'd seen it mentioned on these forums and I had read the first couple of posts on this thread but not got further than that.

It appears that the $1 deal is still on, or at least it was in the webpage that I was sent to and they are also clearly still actively promoting it to their list(s). I have nothing to add on the product itself. I have no experience of it and right now I haven't got the free time to make use of the $1 week long trial to provide any feedback.

It's interesting that you got the email through Market Samurai. It suggests InternetTycoon is using mailing lists of friends and other IMers to promote the program (maybe through the affiliate program).

That the $1 offer is still available seems to confirm my earlier thoughts.

In one of the videos Kenny recommends this forum, but he recommends it in a way that none of his members would bother coming here and registering. Apparently this forum takes only experts and the owner of this forum doesn't suffer fools gladly. In other words the typical members of InternetTycoon should avoid registering just yet. As an expert Kenny drops in and posts here from time to time he claims. Does anyone know what his name is on these forums? I'd like to read his posts.

How does it work in cases where the signup deal is different depending on which link you click? Won't members who've signed up at $99 be annoyed they didn't get the $1 trial if it's still available to others?

I noticed that bit in Kenny's video too. I took it more as a warning that it's best not to blunder in on here because we have strict rules. Obviously, I can't remember exactly what he said as it was a while ago now, but from memory it was along the lines of - EP is a good forum, but the owner doesn't suffer fools gladly, maybe it's best to get a bit of experience under your belt before diving in as a newbie. To some extent, I think it's a fair comment, if indeed that's what he said.

However, we do welcome newbies, but too many jump in and end up falling foul of the rules for one reason or another. It's mostly because they haven't bothered to read them. It's perhaps not a bad idea to forewarn them that EP is a bit more strict than some other places. I've recommended this place to a few of my friends and I always warn them too.

AFAIK, Kenny isn't a member here. I was also curious about that, but apparently he's not. Justin is though, he's FlipFilter on here. In the video prior to the one by Kenny, he also recommends EP as being a good forum. Can't remember what he said now, I think he just included EP in a list of good places to look if you're interested in buying and selling websites.

As far as I know, Kenny isn't a member.

If the message is that you need to be an expert before registering here then that is misleading.

I researched memberships here, and Kenny Goodman is a member. He joined EP January 25th, 2011 and his last post was February 2, 2011.

Market Samurai interfaces directly with DomainFace.com (owned by Kenny Goodman), which is handy because it automatically searches the service based on the keywords of the domain being tracked. Last week, DomainFace found a one-word seven-letter dot org for me in the home improvement niche that was unregistered
