    New site problems.

Hi, i just brought www.gaming-syndicate.com and after uploading the files that came with the site, im getting the MySQL erro appear.

NOTE: this site was running fine until i changed the server to mine.

Its hosted by 000webhosts and all i can think of is there are no table in this area in my control panel.

I dont have the first clue what these are and how to do them.

I thought i was just buying a running website and had to upload the files to continue it running.

    Pls Help.

I'm no techie but that error seems to be saying that you have a user (the application) trying to access the DB that does not have permission to do so.

Your best bet is to contact your hosting support to see if they will rectify this for you.

You'll also need, most likely, to create the SQL tables if the site didn't already do this for you.

I'm sorry I'm not a mySQL expert and can't help you with this.

But I had a look at the Google cache for your site. When it was running it was a forum using the myBB software. So at the very least you need to have the same version of MyBB on your server that there was on the previous server ...and you should have imported the database.

When you say there are no tables, what are you looking at? The database itself? If there aren't tables there then you haven't imported the old database properly. My immediate suggestions:
Contact the seller urgently and request him to not delete anything on the old server
See if he'll give you access to that old account. If it's a dedicated server he can create access to let you into that specific folder of his DS
See how big the database is. If it's less than 20-30MB, try phpMyadmin. But a safer option is always to avoid phpmyadmin and to use putty (SSH) instead. It's tricky if you haven't used it before so get someone to assist.

OK thanks guys, Ive mailed the seller as he said any help just ask so ill wait and see.

He gave me a zip folder which i bulk uploaded to the new server - and thought that would be it.

I know the phpMyadmin has no tables in as it says it dosnt - not that i would know what a table looks like anyways.

Anyway thanks for the info guys. Lets wait and see.

Make sure you got a phpMyAdmin export from the seller. http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/...sql_export.htm

Yep,ive asked the seller for an export - im guessing from reading around its because i havnt updated the config.php file with my new details of the new server. If only i knew what to change on it. Looks all foreign to me lol.

It looks like you got myBB installed OK, so you should be able to get the site up and running as soon as you get the database set up. In the zip file that the seller sent you, did you see any .sql files? If so, you might have received the database export already. Unless the seller is clueless, he would know to send that data to you.

No ive been all through the folder and theres no .sql files. Mainally just php files. I know theres a problem changing the config.php but im unsure as what to alter and to what. Hope he comes up with the .sql files i need.

The entries in the config.php file will have to match the database you set up for the site. At this point, you might as well wait for the seller to send you the file instead of just setting up a blank installation.

Also, I'd recommend putting up some sort of splash page telling visitors that the site is temporarily offline for maintenance, rather than leaving that error message visible so people don't think the site is dead, plus the user name for the database is visible, and that is not something you really want to make publicly available.
