Why would you like to help for free?

The aim is to offer the community a place they can advertise without risking up front costs for sites/domains that might not sell first time round.
The base listings are free but the intention was to introduce premium services/feature advertising that would be charged for once the site had grown (but base listing will always be free).

As we are a 'classifieds' based site as opposed to a more feature-rich auction site like others out there, it didn't seem appropriate to charge for the basic listing services

Cool, nice idea and good business opportunity for your self if done right as you can grow with the forum and have a base to work off. NICE!

I asked my question before as nothing in the world is free.

Offering your main service/product for free is a great way of not earning any cash for your time and If you could show a clear way to market with your service I would of been tempted to contact you in a business compacity. I hope you dont mind me sharing my opinion!

Not at all mate

The classified system is automated (bar the moderation of new listings), so its not time intensive at all. It was designed to be an easy way for buyers and sellers to connect on their own terms and not have to pay a service fee upfront something that may not sell.
The site isn't meant to be my main source of income, but thats not to say it can't generate income from feature listings/advertising/affiliate sales etc.
The model of creating something of value for free with 'pay for additional services' or having 'service addons' etc can work really well, just look at forums like FP as an example of that in action
