FP - What kind of backlinks do you build to rank better?

I think a mix of links is the best way

1. a few High PR web 2.0 properties
2. article marketing
3. blog commenting on high PR, relevant/non-relevant blogs
4. I have heard good things about forum profile links, i will try out a few this weekend.

and remember to ping the URLs that conatin your backlinks.

my recipe if i would like to have good rankings for a very competitive keyword is a mixture of:

Press release submissions
Article submissions
Directory submissions
Link Exchange
Blog posts
Xrumer blasts - the linkwheel properties, never my money site
Blog comments - the linkwheel properties, never my money site (unless high pr pages with low outbound links and all dofollow)
Linkwheels
Social bookmarks - the linkwheel properties, never my money site

I use Angela Edwards link packets which cost $5 a month for 30 high PR links. I then use a software package which automates a lot of the tedious information you have to put into the sites when creating accounts etc.

Like icemusike I try to get a variety of links from a variety of sources, in addition to his already mentioned methods I also like to submit my RSS feeds (with a link to my site) to feed aggregators. The beauty is that these feeds are then often scraped and republished getting me links at a natural rate on auto pilot.

Currently, backlinks from the "old school" types of forums, guestbooks etc. are the ones that are boosting my sites very high in the SERPs. You can have an outsourcer write you a backlinking tool that targets these types of platforms.

ha. you need all sorts of links.
i do press release, web 2.0, articles, blog commenting, bookmarking, etc etc.
senuke sucks imo, i prefer magic submitter. far far better imo

I would not waste my time with any of these:

forum backlinks, web 2.0 property backlinks, blog commenting backlinks, Scrapebxx, SENuke, Scrapeboard, Bookmarking, Article directories, Link directories, Profile links, rss feed submissions, megafoo links, xrummer blasts, Link Exchange, Linkwheels, Social bookmarks, Angela Edwards link packets.

While they are good for link diversity, they are not effective in increasing serp positions for competitive keywords.

If you are competing with other people that are using these methods, then yes, maybe you can rank on the first page of Google with those methods, but keep in mind that someone could come along and outrank you with just a few quality links.

To further elaborate on what mrgreen has said, you want a link on a high pagerank PAGE with the anchor text that you are trying to rank for on a page with related content. Also i would always opt for a page with minimal inbound and outbound links.

Notice how the blog completely revolves around promoting only 1 website.
Notice that there are no other external links on the blog, which shows that the site has high trust.

Notice that it has a toolbar PR of 5, and a mozRank of 5.57
Notice how the mass amount of content is related to the external links
Notice how the external links have the anchor text keyword that is being promoted on Google serps.

In my opinion these are the ultimate links.

The funny thing is, if Google ever find out about these links, all they will do is devalue the links. Nobody can ever report the links because they are hidden from the prowling competition.

Should i be sharing this information? No, but I believe proof needs to be shown rather that all the BS in this thread.

t looks better in Google's eyes if you promote your sub-pages too, although I don't think it is essential at the moment. I don't do this for any of my websites and they still rank well. I don't understand what you mean about submissions, that could mean a number of things. Are you asking about directory submissions? The best advice for link building is that every link counts, so build all types of links (including articles, directories, and forum links).

Well commenting on blogs or websites that use the same keyword works quite well. You can use forums relevant to your niche or you use social bookmarking, social networks and all sites where you can post a link.
