FP - FlippingPlanet vs. FlippingNetwork / KFS
As promised in this post, I've opened this thread to describe the differences between FlippingPlanet and another forum - FlippingNetwork (that you may see being referred to as "our old forum" by some).
We do realise that many of you may think of FlippingPlanet as a "flipping project" of ours, that we intend to sell when it reaches a certain stage. Let me first say that this is most certainly not the case. Thomas and I intend to create a nice and unique community that we ourselves would enjoy managing as much as members enjoy being members of. While we do have a paid section, profiting is not the main goal of the site. Our #1 goal is bringing together people who are interested in the subject of buying and selling websites, provide them with a place where they can enjoy educated discussions on this subject and enjoy themselves in general. Hence, selling this site wouldn't make much sense as the site's revenue simply wouldn't justify it.
Now many of you probably say "but you sold FlippingNetwork", so let me address this point briefly. Most likely we wouldn't have sold FlippingNetwork either if the situation were a little bit different. However, since we did decide to sell the rights to Killer Flipping Secrets (which is still the very best flipping resource to date if you ask me! And no, I don't get any profit or affiliate commission for saying that
), it simply made sense to include FlippingNetwork in the deal as the two sites were simply too closely connected.
I must also add that the situation between the two places is a bit more complicated than "Bryan and Thomas started a forum, sold it, and now started another one". FlippingNetwork is a private forum where only a set number of people are allowed in. This is mostly those who have purchased one of the side-products of FlippingNetwork (Killer Flipping Secrets, now also the Master Mind Group that the new owners have launched) and one of the main functions of the forum is providing additional materials to the mentioned clients. It was never our intention (and, as far as I know, isn't the new owners' intention either) to make FlippingNetwork big or promote it actively. As a matter of fact, we rejected all new registrations unless they were people who we either knew personally or who had bought one of our products.
FlippingPlanet, on the other hand, is a public community. There's a lot of people who are either already involved in the Site Flipping industry, or are looking to get involved - and this is a place where all of them can meet, ask questions and discuss their strategies. Regardless if they are already successful, now us personally, or are just newbies looking for quality information to make their first flip a successful one.
Hence, while the two forums may look similar at a first glance, the demographic really is completely different, and neither us nor (to my best knowledge) the new owners of FlippingNetwork don't see the two forums as competitors.
I hope this cleared the air a little bit, and would like to thank Justin for bringing the question out in another thread.
Any questions? Ask away!
