Mostly Site Flipping
Mostly Internet Marketing
Both Site Flipping and Internet Marketing

While 'hatching' is website development, I am reading this linked post as being a very specific type of website development. This is an adept definition of a very specific process followed by some developers. The word, Hatching, is a completely appropriate definition for construction of template sites.
As defined:
This process includes, as part of its definition, building sites to sell. This part of the definition was why (earlier in this thread) I suggested not doing Hatching of sites either, even though I build web sites.
I like the term, with its implication of a hatchery for web sites. I have seen many sellers of sites follow this process when building turnkey, cookie-cutter (not -always- low quality) sites with little history. As hatching refers to incubating, and this is defined as development specifically for sale, the visual provided by a hatchery is unique. A hatchery could also raise sites past the infant stage, or even past the adolescent stages, to achieve higher sales prices.
Okay, I was going to quote and answer the various responses. Too much like work due to the duplication though.I did notice a lot of the same sentiments so I will try to address them without the quoting.
Please pardon my bluntness; as you get to know me you will realize that I don't mean anything by it. I just state things, often without tact. I honestly do not mean to offend.
This was originally posted under either the Site Flipping or Internet Marketing section of the forum, if memory serves correctly. It seems that a number of contributors say they do neither. Okay... then why are you responding to the poll?(I started to remove that question but I didn't because I wanted everyone to realize I was honestly confused. While rereading over the comments I now understand why y'all commented. It was to share your knowledge, promote discussion, and educate me.) I do thank you all for participating. I have learned something from the experience and learning is a good thing; that's one of the main reason I am here.
Maybe I originally asked a newbie question... my intent was to find out how many people, percentage wise, made their money on the web with these two methods. The original post was made after being a member less than a month; I have been around longer now and should have known better. When I attempted to elicit new responses I should have clarified my question. Here comes the clarification....
Site flipping: Buying a site with the purpose of reselling it pretty much as is.
Internet marketing: Using the internet to market your online business. In retrospect this could also be used to market your dirt world business, but I was originally thinking of promoting your website. I was thinking about things like, but not limited to, e-mail spamming, e-mail mailing lists, PPC and CPA, affiliate programs, link building, and similar methods of promoting your business through online means. This does not include things like onsite SEO, putting your URL on all of your dirt world bulletins, business cards, brochures, direct mailings, etc.
Pretty much even: This would fit a specific set of circumstances. This would be when someone primarily flips sites and uses internet marketing methods to promote their auctions.
If I could add more choices to the poll I would not. I would like to see another poll with additional choices though because it would be more informative and hopefully more revealing.
Thank you all for participating!![]()
I feel your pain. If someone dug out some of the questions I asked on here a year ago I would... probably cringe, or maybe want to kill them for doing such a thing. EP is a great learning environment and being a part of it can change how you think about online business.
You're quite right, it's not ideal to have something you said a long time ago brought back to the surface on a different place where the people have some different views. But don't worry about it.

Thanks for the kind words Kay.
I brought this on myself. I'm the one *cough*idiot*cough* who brought it back up.I'm encouraging the different views, at least I'm trying to; I just need to do it with more forethought.
