I just came up with this idea. You know how Hostgator allows you to create a "coupon code" that actually doubles as your affiliate ID?

Well my idea is that you could make up a ton of flyers. im talking a TON. Have them be super attractive flyers and look really professional. Offer the one penny for the first month of hosting as your coupon. Advertise that well on the flyer.

Now here's the cool part... take your s***load of flyers to the book stores in your area and put the flyers inside of all of the books that are related to internet marketing, web design, etc.

You can even put something clever that the flyer is linked with the book and when the book is sold, the coupon is activated and they only have 3 days to activate the coupon!

$100+/sale with most hosting affiliates.

BTW, I'd use 3x5 cards and make them look like the typical kind of card you sometimes find inside books and magazines.

As off the wall as that sounds it think it would work. In my experience it's off the crazy or unique ideas that work the best. If you try it let us all know i'd be interested in seeing what kind of success rate you have.

This can absolutely work. I have seen billboards on major city bypasses doing the same thing.

Be prepared to get kicked out of the bookstore! Try it anyway...but maybe see if they will elt you by asking first at a couple of places? Also, go to stores like Best BUY and hit up the geek squad members and tech desk inside the store...people that use the geek squad trust their opinion and if you offer to split the sales...twice as much sold, no getting booted out of the store Or, after a sale is made, give it to the customer as a "bonus" for being a best buy customer or for just knowing you

Maybe make a banner of Godaddy (use their but costumize it, and add coupon in the banner, so everyone can see it) , and buy ad space on IM blog/forum?
