FP - Good products to Sell Online

The internet is flooded with so many goodies for sale, and on top of that almost all the goods and services are partnered with affiliate programs. If you are going to choosea category of products to partner with, what product or services would you choose to push online and why?

For me, I would choose a reputable hosting service to partner with or join their affiliate program because the potential market for it is huge, as long as you have a website you need a hosting service.

    what's yours?

Just like my previous answer to your other post, the category depends on the niche your site is about.

That is why many like adsense, or ebay or amazon. Those programs have such a broad choice of product, you can usually find something that matches any niche.

Hosting is good, but it is also competitive. At the end of the day, it still comes down to looking at the traffic you are getting and then matching the product to the search.

i'd rather sell products or services that is related to my website like in my case the blog that I am about to launch is for dog lovers so i'd rather sell products that is related to dogs like dog food, dog care services and others, I just hope there would be affiliate programs available to my niche.

Well in my opinion you need to find stuff that relates to your niche. There are also things that generally sell well while other dont. In my experience stuff with reoccurring revenue is nice. Like for instance I sell an app that parents can put on their kids phone and they can track sms, mms, gps all that stuff for half the price you pay through verizon or att. Plus it gives you sms which neither provider allows. It's nice cause it's only a few bucks a month and so it provides consistent revenue for me. So it's stuff like that which i look for within my niche.

I don't look for niches or products first, nor do I build a site without something already in mind. I prefer to find the market first; a crowd of starving people, and give them what they want... solutions to problems.

There are clues all around you if you'll just look. Look and listen. What problems do you see or hear that people want solved? Once you know the problem, find a solution and you're golden.

People magnets are good, too. Imagine what you could do with one good idea. What if you were the Manolo and made http://shoeblogs.com/ or if you were Lori Deschene and made http://www.tinybuddha.com/ or Jason Whatshisname and masqueraded as the Salty Droid http://www.saltydroid.info/? (well, Jason doesn't even try to earn money off the Droid) I'm thinking you'd be in a pretty good position to be rolling in the dough.

That's only a good idea if you really have a lot of time on your hands for trial and error. The type of sites your describing are actually the most likely type to truly go viral and if they do then there can be a lot of money to be made with them. But the reality is that for every successful example of a site started like that you'll find thousands upon thousands of sites that never really take off.

I've taken that approach many times for a variety of different sites, there a lot of fun to make but eventually I let them go because they never really amounted to much.

If you really do "prefer to find the market first; a crowd of starving people" then that's what niche research really is for. If you don't do the research then your really just guessing. Same thing applies to "give them what they want... solutions to problems", that's what product research is for. Again, if you don't do the research then your really just guessing.

I'm not saying that you can't build a successful website without doing niche research first. It's just that doing so requires some really good intuition. Overall intuition can't be counted on as much as statistical research.
Maybe you're really good at it yourself, some people are very intuitive and can just pick great things to try. For most people though. doing the research is going to be a critical component to finding a successful product to sell.

I would partner with products that cost the customer $150 or more so that you don't have to have a ton of volume to make good money. I also would look into amazon's top 100 products being sold. Any new products added to the list are a go because they won't have a ton of people selling it. Just my .02.

I too like the idea of promoting high ticket items. There seems to be less competition (depending on the niche) and if it's targeted you don't need as much traffic to get a good commission check.

Re: Good products to Sell Online

I think you are spot on springer the market is everything. If people don't want your product no amount of promotion will sell it.

One issue I do have is that in some markets you'll found hundreds of screaming buyers but noehere is their a decent affiliate program to sell them on. I have on occasions approached companies and asked them if they have an affiliate program and sometimes they do but say they don't actively promote it (go figure). Other times they have not concept of affiliate marketing and are happy to spend a fortune on PPC and awareness marketing (Branding). It's these sort of companies that if you can persuade them you can bring them enough traffic will be far better than programs like adsense. The reality is these companies use adwords because they either don't know or just don't care about alternatives.

    Bluey, you nailed it, man!

Just because you find a product you want to promote and it doesn't have an existing affiliate program, it doesn't mean you can't approach the company and see if you can set up a deal. If you are the exclusive affiliate and they do a crap job of promoting it, imagine the possibilities.
