    $1,000,000 and above sites

I'm hoping for some threads in this area even though neither you nor I have $1,000,000 to spend. At the moment anyway

Nobody discusses issues specific to this market anywhere and I'd like to establish these forums as the place to come for those discussions. Sitepoint's vast userbase are expert coders and programmers, but not the main market for this kind of chat. Same with other webmaster forums. Various business websites are great at business chat and some have big players and investors with several million to spend, but they lack the web focus we have.

Any suggestions for topics of discussion related to $1,000,000+ web businesses?

Maybe we can start a topic such as "Who thinks their site is worth $1 million?" Perhaps some members or guests browsing the forum will chime in and webmasters may come out of the woodwork. We could then do some sort of open due diligence and prove the webmaster right or wrong.

I had a site that I sold for several thousand that within 2 months was bought out for $1,300,000... Does that count? I am still kicking myself for that!

Sure, it counts, and I'm interested in knowing the URL. But for the purposes of this thread, I was hoping for ideas on discussion topics rather than URLs

Michael, thanks for the idea. I don't know if there's ever proof that a site is worth $x or $y, but to put our own valuations to such a site wouldn't we need access to a lot of confidential information first?

I was thinking people can talk in general about their sites....and leave the specific details for PMs...as an example:

I have site in logo/template niche..been around for 7 years and has made at least $50K per month since 2004....etc..etc..

People can go into as little or as much details as possible, and maybe, just maybe, it will get people to start thinking that they can actually sell their websites for a nice profit.

I would find it interesting as well to see what people are spending cost wise in running and maintaining those + $1 million businesses. Technical, staff, SEO etc...

Furthermore, perhaps a separate section in the buy/sell thread for these high value properties?

SitePurchaser, thanks for letting me know what you'd like. In the spirit of these forums - giving to others more than we hope to gain ourselves - what discussion threads can we build of use to them in exchange for their sharing valuable data with us?

We could have a separate section for higher value properties, yes. There aren't that many million dollar sites around for sale and we won't be getting a flood of sellers, but maybe we can start it off with threads by you guys pointing out the worthy million dollar sites you've spotted on broker sites/elsewhere and telling us why you think they are worth the money? Once we have a few of those in BSTE, I could start a new section and move the relevant threads there which would, in turn, attract real sellers of million dollar sites to come and talk with us.

Michael, that's true, they don't need to disclose much detail. As a broker, you deal with sellers of higher value sites. What kind of threads do you think would tempt owners of other such sites to consider putting their sites up for sale?

Michael may have a winning idea here, though I might word the question - "Is YOUR Site Worth a Million Dollars? or something like that.

On that note, what criteria should a Million $ site meet?

    Clinton,

Perhaps we create a thread for "Million Dollar Webmasters", or kind of a mini forum for them, so they can talk to each other about their successes and how they did it. We basically need to be accommodating for these types of people and provide the "forum" for them to network with each other. It would kind of be like the website affluence.org where only the best of the best can join. Webmasters love being part of an exclusive club, especially when it comes to their earnings.
Perhaps we also lower the bar a bit and call it "Six Figure Webmasters" or something like that, as like you said Clinton, there arent THAT may million dollar sites out there.

@Andy: for starters, a website that would be worth $1 million needs to have a history of annual profits of at least $400K+. Webmasters love to talk about potential and how their site CAN be worth a million if X,Y,& Z are done, but I think we all know that this is rarely the case and savvy investors weed through that and just look at the numbers first and foremost.
