What is the best form of advertising to use for a forum?

    Hi all!

I have just started a new site askapcquestion dot co dot uk ... If anyone could have a look and tell me what would be the best form of advertising to start out with I would be very greatful! ... I am new to this and could use some advice. My site is basically a PC questions and answers site.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi dancoveney, and welcome to the forums.

I was tempted delete the link. There is no accusation that your link is spammy but as there isn't a defined link policy here yet I'm cautious against the word getting around that a good way for a new site to get a free link is to post a thread in EP. What I'll do instead is let your thread run for a bit, monitor the response it gets from the experts already here and your own contributions to the forums.

In the meanwhile, is your question about where you can advertise your site or about how you can earn from advertising?

    Earning from advertising

Hi, Thanks for that, I apreciate it. I am not trying to spam, I'm just interested in learning a bit about getting started with online earning.

So in response (sorry I should have made my question clearer) I would just like to know a bit more about advertising on my site, such as google ads. What are the best programs to start with. I know some you have to have high traffic for the to consider you. Sorry I am very new to this!

Dan, advertisers need a reason to pay a webmaster money and it's usually the potential to reach the right customers and generate sales. On a brand new site like yours it's almost impossible to get advertisers.

Once you've built up traffic the story changes. At the moment it may be best if you concentrate on building good content and getting your traffic figures up.

In response to what Clinton spoke of "concentrate on building good content and getting your traffic figures up", one way of doing this is to create pages for your site on the popular social sites, i.e. facebook, myspace, etc. Also, press releases are another way to build your site traffic. If you google about press releases it will give you some more information on that. Typically, though, press releases are better suited for debuting a new product or a very unique service. It's worth a try though because you want your site to stand out from everyone elses so, if you make your press release sound like you are THE best site to go to for asking a PC question it might work. I hope this helps!

I must say I've never owned a forum, but I'm assuming that the number of pageviews per visitor is much higher than other website types. If so, I'd start off with a CPM program (which is when you earn money for whenever an ad is viewed.) I've always had better luck with CPM than CPC.

Whatever you do, do NOT use text ads like intellitext, or infolinks. You're just asking to piss off your readers.
