FP - Domain Names and Places to Buy Them

Hello again all. Fresh from my asking a bunch of newbie questions I have decided to, ask a newbe question! Hopefully one or two will find it useful though.

As I said elsewhere my plan at the moment is to find domains that have backlinks/PR. Of course the question becomes - where do I find them?

What I have done so far (in the hope some people will find it useful)

    1. Signed up with dropday.com - they have a free trial which I found great and price wise they seemed far more reasonable than many I found that didnt even off me a trial. they allow you to search by things like backlinks or PR

    2. Signed up with GoDaddy Auctions (costs a couple of quid). Again cheap and allows you to bid on a huge number of useful looking auctions

Now using DropDay I have found interesting auctions on

    1. Godaddy
    2. Namejet
    3. Snapnames

Now what I was wondering was where else people go to buy domains, or what tools they use?

Obviously there is always the DigitalPoint marketplace (actually bought 2 domains from there awhile back for my own use that have turned out to be very useful), and Flippa (not really used much myself, though that will change)

    Any other advice/tools/places?

    Thanks

    Nick

When I was buying a number of domains, one tool I used was RegisterCompass. Good tool that monitors most/all auctions and allows you to filter by a number of criteria (backlinks, PR, auction marketplace, etc.).

Had a look at them but they don't seem to have a free trial. Do you know if they offer much of an upgrade on Dropday.com? DD offers searching by PR, Backlinks, Traffic etc as well

Don't know about Dropday.com, so can't say -- sounds intriguing and certainly RegComp wouldn't be the only service.

RegComp doesn't have a free trial, but it does have money back on the first month / limited searches:

    http://www.registercompass.com/membership/Default.aspx

Also, if I remember correctly, you can cancel at any time, so you'll only into it for $37/m * how many months you use it.

    Hope that helps...

I am still in the learning process. I have been looking at websites to buy, but after looking at this thread it maybe more beneficial for me to buy domains then build them up. I like the fact I could buy a domain with page rank already on it. I was not sure that existed.

I have seen some pretty awesome domains on flippa and digitalpoint. On flippa they seem to have domains that I never imagined would ever see up for sale.

Re: Domain Names and Places to Buy Them

I personally found Dropday to be one of the best services for finding PR domains. The great thing about them is that you can sort by the amount of links a domain has, whether or not its dmoz or yahoo directory listed, and it will also tell you if the PR is real or fake, as well as other sorting methods.

I have heard good things about registercompass, and without trying it for myself, I’m going to assume that it’s pretty much the same as dropday.

Both of these methods will certainetly find what you are looking for, but don’t expect to find a bargain as other members are basically looking at the same metrics.

Namejet has a fee of $69 for the starting bid, I would not use this if I was looking for a PR5 or less domain. Don’t get me wrong, namejet is amongst the best, but if you’re simply looking for PR domains I would not use them.

Snapnames is just like namejet but with a starting price of $59.

For me Godaddy is the place to be for finding PR domains, and I always set myself a budget for a specific domain:
    PR3 $30 - $60 depending on the quality.
    PR4 $70 - $120 depending on the quality.
PR5+ seems to go upward of $400 unless you can find a hidden gem that nobody has found. I recently purchased a valid PR5 with 90 quality links for $30 including the renewal fee.

I know this has been said by other posters, but always check to see if the PR is valid, and that it’s not banned by Google. I also use seospyglass to check that the domain still has some quality links still put in place.

    Good luck

Re: Domain Names and Places to Buy Them

I personally use Flip Filter. You can search for any current domain and website auction going on and sort by pagerank, if they have bids, by price, and pretty much everything else. By becoming a member (just $9 a month) you now get access to 30 estibot and semrush reports a day as well as website auction history and a bunch of stats and data to look through. Justin the founder seems like a stand up guy and I wouldn't be surprised if both Bryan and Thomas have worked with him in the past. If not, maybe they should!
