    FP - A list of Q & A sites

I saw where someone suggested using Q & A sites to generate backlinks.

Here is a list of free, at least I think they are all still free, Q & A sites:
    • able2know A question and answer system built on top of a forum
    • AllExperts Ask questions directly to volunteer experts
    • answerbag Similar to Yahoo! Answers
    • The AnswerBank A simple answer-based community from Britain
    • ask me help desk Ask volunteer experts and then tip them with cash if you get an answer you like
    • askville Amazon's Yahoo! Answers clone
    • fluther Fluther supposedly learns the type of questions you like to answer as you use the site
    • grupthink Not questions and answers, but 'open-ended topics' and 'opinions'
    • knowbrainers A question an answer site with a MySpace-like social network attached
    • Linkedin Focused on business questions
    • minti This one is all about parenting
    • rediff Q&A A question and answer site from Indian portal Rediff
    • Simply Explained Similar to Yahoo! Answers
    • trulia Real estate Q & A
    • WikiAnswers A Q & A community based around a wiki (Remember, wiki information can be changed by anyone.)
    • Yahoo! Answers You know you expected this one to be here
Side note: Google Answers is defunct.

    Question A list of Q & A sites

I have a couple of questions for my new associates:

Has anyone had any success from using sites like the ones listed in the original post to generate links?

With the 'nofollow' option, how do you tell if you are successful in creating a link that the SE's will credit your site for? Sorry for such an open-ended question. I have done some reading on EP, maybe I just haven't read the right post yet. Links are okay.

Does anyone have any sites to add to the list? If the site is related to a specific niche, please note what it is.

There are problems with trying to use these sort of sites for link generation, mainly because people try to make links from them so often.

A useful strategy on Yahoo Answers is to make a quick but positive reply to a question, then return an hour later and post a "useful link" for the questioner. If you post the link as a "source", it gets no-followed.

There are loads of Q&A sites - here's a link to 87 for starters. To find more, search for the Stack Exchange software running on their sites. Because sites can only license Stack Exchange software, there are a couple of alternatives available which can be purchased outright. Find those and you'll find more sites.

Does anyone have any sites to add to the list? If the site is related to a specific niche, please note what it is.
I hate it when people volunteer others to do their research ...

Thanks for the explanation, the instruction, and the link.

The list I provided in the original post is a list of working sites that I personally visited and checked out before making the post. My starting list was nearly a hundred sites that I had found tooling around and reading threads and posts and blogs. The dozen or so that made the list were usable; the ones that didn't make it were either not working, non existent, paid for sites, or just not what people said they were. I'm not adverse to doing my own research; I have found that I remember things better when I do my own work.

I was not asking for you, or anyone else, to do research for me. I was asking if anyone had any sites they used that they wanted to share with the community. I may be a newbie, but I'm not lazy... well, at least not that lazy.

I can't make a recommendation of sites I use myself as I don't, but there are some other lists around of Q&A sites for backlinks:
    Netcafe7
    HomeBizWiz
    Findthebest
    ReadWriteWeb

I haven't checked the sites these lists link to. Perhaps someone else can do that.

These are the sites listed in the first site (NetCafe7) and the last one (ReadWriteWeb).
Any sites that don't exist anymore, or redirect to a non-Q&A site were excluded.
Sites that appeared on both lists were only included once.
Some of the sites encourage the use of sources and some don't seem to be too strict about leaving a link in the answer so I suppose any of those might be useful.
