FP - Buying aged domains... and _keeping_ the age!

    Hi,

For anyone involved in buying aged domains, has there been a recent shift in how aged domains keep their age?

Admittedly I haven't done a lot of these (previously it was pretty much PR), but in the last two the age 'dropped' and when I picked them up the date 'reset' to 2011 -- losing all the age .

I did a Google search to see what I'm missing, but couldn't find much about 'keeping the age' of an aged domain. Any thoughts on what I may be missing?

    Thanks!

You are supposed to buy the domain before it'd deleted. Is that how you are doing?

    Hello Brett,
I would not worry too much about the age of the domain.
SEO is full of assumptions and myths.

Re: Buying aged domains... and _keeping_ the age!

I've always thought I'm grabbing them before they delete, but I'll have to check on that. Just weird that this happened all of a sudden to a few buys.

If it helps, I look for aged domains via any given tool (e.g., Market Samuari's Domain module), and then back order on NameJet, etc. ... or if they are available on GoDaddy auction, bid there.

Any insight is helpful, as I don't want to keep buying aged domains that seem to reset .

Yeah, it would be good if you check it once. make sure you understand the domain name lifecycle well, there are pretty good number of viseos and tutorials out there. google it I've been buying aged domains lately. I never had a domain that dropped age and rest of it's value. If it happens again let me know. Hope it helps.

What's the point in buying a aged domain if it wouldn't keep it's age and value

    Agreed!

I know the lifecycle pretty well, and Googling this issue came up with it a number of times, but I couldn't find any definitive information on when a domain drops it's age, which I found weird... but sometimes even with Google you have to dig.

So what I'm getting here is the most important thing is to check if it has / will delete and that should save my bacon?

I've seen these too, but they still have perceived value .

Different people buy for different reasons and all information is good information. If I didn't say it directly, thanks for posting that link Tim. Everyone should buy knowing all angles of the investment / market -- positive and negative as they may be. Thanks!
