FP - Lost Rank After Adding Content

Has anyone else experienced this? I was in position #6, and decided to add a post to my site, and the next day found that the site slipped to #13. It's been two days now.

I do not add content to it on a regular basis, but after seeing this slippage, it makes me not want to add content anymore. Do you guys that add content regularly experience this? Or is it just because I don't do it often enough?

    Thanks

How long were you in position #6 for? Also, consider the fact it could have been something else that affected your rank, so it may have just been a coincidence. From everything I know and have read, adding new content helps out in the long run. If I were you I wouldn't fret, especially since it's only been two days! Also if you aren't aware, google just recently released an update to the panda algorithm a few days ago... so that might be the culprit.

I was there for about a week, but before the drop my position was consistently rising.

I wouldn't consider a week 'long' for ranking, so doubt your post did it. I also wouldn't consider a drop to #16 after a week a big deal. What's the competition for the KW? Did the top ten turn over a lot or was it just you? What's the competition like in the top ten -- is it easy to break into, even by accident? I see a lot of pages in the top ten that aren't trying to be there (based on onpage and offpage), but if you have a low competition top ten, means anyone can slip in... on purpose or by accident.

I would be adding content, and link building, regularly. Regular doesn't have to mean every day -- every two weeks for a new post is fine, but if Google doesn't see activity at the site and links being built to the site, then they may consider it dead and drop it.

So at this point I wouldn't say it was the article...

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. Thanks for your thoughts. It was just frustrating to see my rank climb every few days just to see it plummet. And the only thing that I did differently was add a blog post.

    Thanks for your thoughts.
