FP - Dot com v dot Info

I am now positive google favor .com's and chip .info extensions

I have a heap of .info sites one in particular is 3 months old with a PR1, 13 indexed pages and 2 backlinks with ALL 100% original content and, it has never progressed further then page 5.

Then .................. comes along the .com of the exact match domain (today) and gets 4th down on page 1 first day!, no PR, no back links, no content, had a look around and the domain was first reg in 2009 looked on wayback and it has never had a site built on it's ever.

Then there is the .com.au extension of the exact match, it sits on page 1 # 1 and never moves and this site has ZERO content absolutely nothing.

I have done all my keyword research properly as I always do, lookin at the .com none, surely this thing wont last long on page 1, it's not as if it there is a heap of competition its just the principle of the thing not to mention disheartening.

So any idea as to how this "non site" pulled page 1 on day 1? I have a fair idea the answer will be "it wont stay there long" but then my next question would be hth does that .com.au site stay put with no content?

Welcome to the world of "google". I am not sure what they have against .info domains, but they are very difficult to rank - why do you think you can buy them for 1 or 2 dollars ? Also, and emd .com is not the magical bullet it once was either.

Cool Re: Dot com v dot Info

Google claims they don't discriminate against any TDL's; that rankings are all based on content.

From the Webmaster FAQ page at http://support.google.com/webmasters...axgbp&cbrank=3 which says the following:

.com, .org, .gov, .ponies—does my top-level domain impact my site's performance in search?

Google's goal is to return the best and most relevant results to the user, regardless of the top-level domain. If our system determines that the best result is a page on a new gTLD, we'll return that page in search results.
Now, whether you believe Google or not....

Re: Dot com v dot Info

stu, I've had the very same experience with .info's and .com's as you so I avoid buying .info's unless it's for a temporary throwaway or test projects.

In relation to the .com.au, I've seen many brand new sites appear on Page 1 for a day or so and then vanish when the search engines properly analyse it and assign it a ranking. Would be interesting to hear an update as to where it is now some months later?
